TREMONTON — Police in Box Elder County are investigating the killing of a Tremonton man.

Brandon Keith Thompson, 30, was arrested and booked into Box Elder County Jail in connection with the death of Michael Keith Hogenson, 33, according to Tremonton Police Chief Dave Nance.

About 3:45 a.m. Monday, officers were dispatched to a reported shooting at 3625 W. 1000 North, Nance said. Thompson was the caller who alerted authorities to the incident, Nance said.

Hogenson died at the scene, Nance said, and had two gunshot wounds on his body.

Hogenson had lived in the Weber County area previously, Nance said. He had been living in the home where the shooting occurred since December 2017, according to the Tremonton Leader newspaper.

Thompson was booked on charges of aggravated murder, a first-degree felony; obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony; and possession of a firearm by a restricted person, a second-degree felony.

This is the first reported homicide in Tremonton in more than 50 years, according to Nance.

First murder in Tremonton in 50 years?  Not surprisingly it was committed by someone with a criminal history who was barred from having a gun by law.  How exactly is another gun law going to fix the problem?

If the D.A. fails to make the case for aggravated murder, there are the 2nd degree felonies to punish him for. Or maybe they can make a deal with him to confess if they drop the other charges. Laws don’t always prevent crime from happening, but they can make life miserable for criminals.
