LOGAN — An elderly woman has died after a truck she was a passenger in was involved in a head-on crash in Sardine Canyon Tuesday afternoon.
At 2:13 p.m., a head-on collision occurred between a 2014 Chevy Silverado and 2014 Toyota Sienna SUV at mile marker 11 on SR 91 near Dry Lake in Sardine Canyon.
Witnesses told the Utah Highway Patrol that the Silverado had crossed the median at the summit and was traveling northbound in the southbound lane of travel. One witness swerved to avoid a collision with the truck before the collision occurred, UHP said.
The 87-year-old female passenger’s heart initially stopped at the scene and medical personnel performed CPR while she flown by medical helicopter to Ogden Regional Medical Center. She was pronounced dead at the hospital, UHP said.
The 88-year-old male driver of the truck was taken to a hospital in Logan where he’s in good condition, UHP said. The 32-year-old driver of the SUV was extricated and is also in good condition at the Logan hospital.
UHP said investigators believe the cause of the crash was fatigue or a medical condition.
Sardine Canyon was closed for several hours Tuesday as the crash was investigated and cleaned-up.
