While Weber State University is somewhat quiet during the summer, sparks were loudly flying in the Engineering Technology building in the middle of July during the Girls Welding Camp. For three days, Weber State professors invite high school girls from around the state to learn more about manufacturing and try their hands at metalworking. Professor Mark Baugh is the coordinator for the school’s welding program and started the camp in 2013. The camp has gained support -- including financial support from some large companies -- as a way to encourage more women to explore an interest in manufacturing trades that are usually dominated by men.
