Bonneville High boys golf sophomore Parker Bunn won medalist honors at Monday’s Region 5 championship at The Barn Golf Club with a searing 7-under-par 64, four shots in front of Viewmont’s Luke Gardner, who led the Vikings with a 3-under 68.

Bunn and Gardner were the only two players to break the 70 mark and the only two who shot under-par rounds. Bunn’s teammate Max Togisala finished tied for fifth place with a 72.

Viewmont’s Jacob Gold and Zach Robinson both shot even-par 71 and Sam Summerhays carded a 1-over 73 to give the Vikings the team tournament championship by three shots, 283-286, over the Lakers. Bonneville had rounds of 74 from Ryder Hassell and 76 from Braxton Glenn.

For the season, Woods Cross and Viewmont are co-champions after the Vikings took first and the Wildcats took third on Monday, giving them each 41 points to end the season. Bonneville finished third in the season standings with 32 points.

Bunn missed two of the nine Region 5 tournaments this season but still won season medalist honors by winning four of the seven tournaments outright that he played in, including Monday’s.

The 5A state tournament will be held Oct. 4-5 in Spanish Fork.
