The Basketball Tournament announced its bracket Tuesday for the 2019 edition of its winner-take-all, $2 million hoops competition and it revealed some spicy local flavor for games scheduled in Utah.
The Maverik Center in West Valley City will host Team Fredette, Team Utah and the Utah Stallions from July 25-27 in one of eight regionals across the country.
Team Fredette, the region's No. 3 seed, is led by its namesake, Jimmer Fredette, and recently added BYU all-time leading scorer Tyler Haws and brought on recently retired Dave Rose to help coach. Team Fredette also has former college standouts Tu Holloway (Xavier) and Darington Hobson (New Mexico) on its roster.
Team Utah, a No. 8 seed, is mostly a University of Utah alumni team including former Utes Shaun Green, Tim Drisdom, Dakarai Tucker and Justin Hawkins, joined by Utah Valley alums Ronnie Price and Akolda Manyang, and former Weber State player Nick Covington.
The Utah Stallions, a No. 7 seed, are a Utah State alumni team featuring former Aggies Preston Medlin, Sean Harris, Danny Berger, Spencer Butterfield and Jordan Stone. Utah alums Tyler Rawson and Parker Van Dyke are also on the squad.
TBT is a 64-team tournament comprised of teams with players who are overseas professionals, former NBA and college players, or NBA players not currently under contract. The tournament is in its sixth year and the prize stash for the winning team is $2 million. Games air on ESPN networks or WatchESPN.com.
Winners of the eight regionals garner 25% of ticket sales from their regional site and advance to championship week Aug. 1-6 in Chicago.
