PROVO — A high-scoring walk-on has now signed to a scholarship for Brigham Young University basketball.
Steven Beo, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Richland, Washington, signed to play for BYU as part of the 2016 recruiting class, the school announced Friday.
Beo was a four-year starter at Richland High School, leading the state in scoring as a junior (27.7 points per game) and averaging 26.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game as a senior.
“We’re really excited about adding Steven. He’s a great competitor and scorer and will give us depth on the guard line," BYU head coach Dave Rose said.
Beo had previously committed to play at BYU as a walk-on.
In four seasons, Beo helped Richland to a combined record of 80-18 and three trips to the state tournament.
Beo joins Yoeli Childs of Bingham High School (Salt Lake City, Utah) as 2016 signees who will join the team next season. Gavin Baxter of Timpview (Provo, Utah) and Connor Harding of Highland High School (Pocatello, Idaho) also signed for 2016 but will serve missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before joining the Cougars.
