Prep basketball roundup: Gil’s late winner lifts Ogden boys to road win

RICHFIELD — Khol Gil scored the game-winning basket for Ogden High boys basketball, converting a running floater with 9.7 seconds left, and the Tigers made a defensive stop to beat Kanab 74-72 at the 3A/2A Preview event played Friday at Sevier Valley Center.

Ogden (3-0) trailed 40-30 at halftime. Jack Blodgett led the team with 17 points and three 3-pointers.

Alex Howard scored 15 points. Ozzy Norton totaled 14 points with five rebounds, Jace Oliverson scored 11 points with six boards and Landen Smith added seven points with seven rebounds.

FREMONT 64, NORTHRIDGE 43

LAYTON — Five Fremont players scored in double figures in a road win.

David Calvert led the Silverwolves (3-0) with 16 points. Hunter Hansen and Dakota Arglye each scored 11. Braden Flinders and Treyden Hoggan each scored 10 points.

Sam Sivulich led Northridge (1-2) with 15 points.

BEN LOMOND 47, UINTAH 25

GARLAND — Ben Lomond ran out to a 17-7 lead after one quarter and never looked back in a win over Uintah (1-1) at the Bear River Winter Classic.

Chauncey Whitty scored a game-high 19 points for Ben Lomond (1-3). Kekoa Beard scored 12 points and Jake East added 10.

BOX ELDER 40, ROY 33

ROY — Roy led 27-26 after three quarters, then Box Elder outscored the Royals 14-6 in the final frame to grab a road win.

Jackson McKee led all scorers with 15 points for Box Elder (1-1). Cole Mortensen scored eight points with two 3-pointers.

Jaylen Rose led Roy (0-2) with nine points and Carson Hammer scored six.

DAVIS 55, PLEASANT GROVE 51

PLEASANT GROVE — Davis gave up a 42-31 lead in the fourth quarter, then rallied back to win on the road.

Rex Sunderland scored 11 points with six rebounds, Colby Sims scored 11 points and Tate Garff scored 10 for the Darts (2-0).

MORGAN 68, MANTI 64

RICHFIELD — Morgan trailed 29-25 at the half, then took control with a 20-12 advantage in the third quarter to beat Manti (1-1) in the 3A/2A Preview.

Nixan Ordyna led all scorers with 27 points for Morgan (3-0) and Eli Bailey added 15.

SPANISH FORK 56, LAYTON CHRISTIAN 53

SPANISH FORK — Layton Christian got outscored 12-7 in the fourth quarter in a road loss

Tyrese Lacey led LCA (1-1) with 12 points and Shorn Solomon scored nine.

KEARNS 75, WEBER 71

KEARNS — Weber outscored Kearns 25-14 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to get a win.

Griffyn Doughty led Weber (1-2) with 23 points. Hunter Schenck scored 16 points and Stryker Rashid added 14.

EAST 44, CLEARFIELD 33

CLEARFIELD — Austin Mitchell scored nine points as Clearfield (0-3) lost at home to East.

BEAR RIVER 59, UNION 52

GARLAND — Bear River concluded the first day of its own Winter Classic with a win over Union (2-2) late Thursday.

Denver Rees led Bear River (1-1) with 14 points on four 3-pointers. Daxton Sorensen and Gehrig Marble each scored 10 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

SYRACUSE 49, BEAR RIVER 32

MORGAN — Syracuse took a 16-4 lead after one quarter in a victory over Bear River in the Morgan Tournament.

Skylee Hopkins and Whitney Sorenson each scored 10 points to pace Syracuse (3-0). Gracie Sorenson added eight points.

Gracie Riley scored a game-high 15 points for Bear River (1-1). Ella Goldman tallied six points.

BOX ELDER 49, SNOW CANYON 42

ST. GEORGE — Box Elder outscored Snow Canyon 28-18 in the second half to win on the road Thursday night.

Tegan Mecham led the Bees (2-0) with 16 points and shot 7 for 9 at the free throw line. Kamryn Peterson added 10 points.

WEST JORDAN 49, WEBER 45

PLEASANT VIEW — Weber trailed 40-32 after three quarters but couldn’t complete the comeback in a home loss to West Jordan (3-1).

Katelynn Butler led all scorers with 17 for Weber (0-2) and Jazmyn Bennett added nine.

ST. JOSEPH 51, FREEDOM PREP 16

OGDEN — St. Joseph kept Freedom Prep (0-2) scoreless in the first quarter and led 25-4 at the half in a home win.

Sarah Snell led St. Joseph (2-2) with 15 points and Katelyn Martinez scored 14.
