Prep basketball roundup: Bonneville girls, Roy boys get first wins of the season

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Bonneville High girls basketball outscored Taylorsville 15-12 in the fourth quarter to get its first win of the season, 47-44, on Wednesday night.

Libby Jensen led the Lakers (1-4) with 16 points and four 3-pointers. Courtnie Porter added nine points.

FREMONT 62, SKY VIEW 34

PLAIN CITY — Fremont stayed unbeaten as the Silverwolves strung a 39-13 advantage across the second and third quarters.

Timea Gardiner led all scorers with 20 points for Fremont (3-0). Gardiner made three 3-pointers and scored all of her points in the first three quarters.

Maggie Mendelson scored 14 points, also in the first three quarters.

BOX ELDER 64, CLEARFIELD 43

BRIGHAM CITY — Tegan Mecham scored 15 points and Kamryn Peterson scored 14 to lead Box Elder to a big home win.

The Bees (3-2) outscored Clearfield 19-7 in the third quarter to push a seven-point halftime lead into a 19-point lead.

Miranda Mansfield led Clearfield (0-4) with 12 points.

OGDEN 53, LOGAN 28

LOGAN — Ogden had a huge 30-11 halftime lead in a big road win.

Lucy Ballard led the Tigers (3-2) with 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting, four rebounds, four steals and three blocks.

Ogden had 25 steals as a team, led by Mahine Bergeson’s six steals to go with seven points. Ellie Oliverson and Donna Gonzalez Quintanilla each scored eight points.

HIGHLAND 45, BOUNTIFUL 35

BOUNTIFUL — Taylor Harvey scored 17 points in a home loss for Bountiful (3-1).

BOYS BASKETBALL

ROY 39, BEAR RIVER 37

GARLAND — Roy watched a last-second Bear River 3-point attempt fall short and won its first game of the season.

Carson Hamer led all scorers with 18 points for the Royals (1-2), and shot 7 of 9 from the field. Spencer Bessinger scored 11 points for Roy.

Daxton Sorensen led Bear River (2-3) with 11 points, hitting three early 3-pointers.

MORGAN 63, APA-DRAPER 58 (OT)

MORGAN — Nixan Ordyna scored 30 points, 22 after halftime, and shot 11 of 12 from the free-throw line to lead Morgan to an overtime win against American Prep Academy-Draper.

Ordyna had eight points, with a 4-of-4 mark from the foul line, in overtime for the Trojans (4-1), who trailed 22-17 at halftime after being outscored 16-1 in the second quarter. Aiden Harris added 11 points for Morgan.
