Prep basketball roundup: Viewmont’s hot shooting defeats Layton 61-58

LAYTON — Viewmont High boys basketball shot 50% from deep (10 of 20) and turned back a Layton rally to win the fourth quarter 19-11 and claim a non-region victory 61-58 on Tuesday night.

Zach Robison led Viewmont (2-1) with 15 points, shooting 3 of 4 from deep and adding six rebounds. Radek Pulsipher and Scott Noel added 14 points apiece, with Noel adding six rebounds. Gavin Siddoway dished eight assists and Caden Lauder pulled down 10 rebounds.

Brighton Palmer led Layton (0-2) with 16 points nad 10 rebounds. Connor Wilson added 11 points and KJ Miller totaled nine points and four steals.

WOODS CROSS 59, SYRACUSE 44

SYRACUSE — Woods Cross led 14-3 after one quarter in a season-opening win at Syracuse.

Jaxon Smith led Woods Cross (1-0) with 21 points and two 3-pointers, and Mason Bendinger scored 19.

Bridger Gardner led Syracuse (0-2) with 18 points and two treys. Kaden Ericksen, Brevin Hamblin and Brandon Clark each scored six points.

FREMONT 44, RIDGELINE 42

PLAIN CITY — Fremont trailed 32-29 after three quarters, then outscored Ridgeline 15-10 in the final frame to open the season with a win.

David Calvert led Fremont (1-0) with 19 points. Hunter Hansen added 16 points with two 3-pointers.

NORTHRIDGE 75, BEN LOMOND 52

OGDEN — Northridge held Ben Lomond to five third-quarter points in a road win.

Sam Sivulich and Kade Sparrow each scored 19 points for Northridge (1-1). Sparrow hit two 3-pointers.

Jaxon Thomas led Ben Lomond (0-2) with 13 points and two treys. Kekoa Beard added 12 points.

BONNEVILLE 73, CENTURY-ID 47

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Bonneville hit 14 3-pointers in a blowout win over Century (Idaho).

Jake Williams hit four treys on his way to 20 points for Bonneville (2-0). Koy Dixon added 16 points with four 3-pointers. Bo Dixon netted 11 on three treys.

BOUNTIFUL 79, WEST 33

BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful led 37-10 at the half in a big, season-opening win over West (0-1).

Sam Stevenson led all scorers with 22 points and two 3-pointers for Bountiful (1-0). Trevin Ostler added 10 points.

SKY VIEW 80, WEBER 57

PLEASANT VIEW — Hunter Schenck went off for 32 points on eight 3-pointers but Weber was routed at home by Sky View (1-0).

Cannon DeVries added 12 points for Weber (1-1).

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 69, TOOELE 52

TOOELE — Layton Christian held Tooele (0-2) to four first-quarter points in a road win.

Tyrese Lacey led all scorers with 18 points for Layton Christian (1-0). Isaac Cubero scored 14 points and Tunc Tuncel added 11.

ROCKWELL 65, ST. JOSEPH 50

EAGLE MOUNTAIN — St. Joseph was outscored 22-11 in the fourth quarter in a road loss Monday.

Jaxon Harper scored 26 points to lead the Jayhawks (1-3) and Bjorn Mouritsen added 11.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

DAVIS 41, BONNEVILLE 38

KAYSVILLE — Davis outscored Bonneville 16-3 in the first quarter, then held off the Lakers’ comeback bid.

Kylee Mabry led all scorers with 20 points and two 3-pointers for Davis (1-0). Taylor Leavitt and Kendra Kitchen each scored seven points.

Courtnie Porter led Bonneville (0-3) with 12 points and Libby Jensen scored 10.

BOX ELDER 68, HILLCREST 53

BRIGHAM CITY — Box Elder outscored Hillcrest 21-8 in the third quarter to grab a season-opening win.

Tegan Mecham led Box Elder (1-0) with a game-high 23 points, including four 3-pointers. Ashlyn Reeder added 19 points with three treys and Kamryn Peterson poured in 15 points with four 3-pointers.

WESTLAKE 55, NORTHRIDGE 24

LAYTON — Northridge trailed 22-10 at the half in a home loss to Westlake.

Kate Tueller led Northridge (1-2) with seven points and Hali’a Mislang-Darden scored five.

WOODS CROSS 56, CLEARFIELD 37

CLEARFIELD — Woods Cross led 23-11 at the half and outscored Clearfield 22-9 in the third quarter in a road win.

Woods Cross (1-1) did not report stats.

Miranda Mansfield paced Clearfield (0-2) with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. Savannah Anderton added eight points and six rebounds.

JUDGE MEMORIAL 60, BONNEVILLE 42

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Bonneville trailed 27-16 at the half in a home loss Monday.

Courtnie Porter led Bonneville with nine points. Sara Sakarek and Ella Holland each added eight points.

BOUNTIFUL 49, SKYLINE 36

BOUNTIFUL — Taylor Harvey led Bountiful (2-0) with 20 points and Halyey Smith added eight in a non-region win.
