SYRACUSE 35, MOUNTAIN RIDGE 23

HERRIMAN — Jake Hopkins passed for three touchdowns and the Titans returned two interceptions for scores as No. 12 Syracuse High football grabbed an upset win at No. 5 Mountain Ridge (8-3) in the 6A second round.

Hopkins hit Tyson Stapley from 35 yards in the first quarter and 19 yards in the second to give Syracuse (8-4) a 14-3 lead. Brevin Hamblin returned a third-quarter pick-6 25 yards and Daxton Faddis took an interception 17 yards to the house in the fourth. Hopkins and Jackson Stark connected for a 41-yard touchdown to cap the Titans’ scoring.

Syracuse will travel to face Region 1 foe No. 4 Weber in the quarterfinals.

BOUNTIFUL 38, PARK CITY 20

BOUNTIFUL — Drew Bowles rushed for two touchdowns and returned an interception for a third score as No. 4 Bountiful downed No. 20 Park City (5-6) in the 5A second round.

Owen Geilman found Teagan Dougher for a 49-yard touchdown pass to give Bountiful (8-2) a 7-3 lead in the first quarter. Ben Smith hit a 44-yard field goal and Bowles scored on a 1-yard plunge as the Redhawks took a 17-6 halftime lead.

Corbin Cottle scored on a 16-yard run, then Bowles added a 55-yard pick-six as the third quarter expired for a 31-6 lead. Bowles galloped 55 yards from scrimmage for the final Bountiful score.

The Redhawks will host No. 21 Orem in the quarterfinals.

MORGAN 56, NORTH SANPETE 19

MORGAN — No. 4 Morgan rushed for five touchdowns and led 42-6 at the half in a drubbing of No. 5 North Sanpete (5-7) in the 3A quarterfinals.

Nick Despain connected with Gavin Turner for a 63-yard touchdown to open the scoring for Morgan (10-3). Will Lance scored on runs of 15 and 35 yards, then Taten Nelson rushed 6 yards for a score. Payton Brooks took a Despain pass 41 yards to score and the Trojans led 35-0. Despain scored on a 1-yard run with 17 seconds left in the first half.

Will Korth scored on a 6-yard run and Gunnar Lish returned an interception 13 yards, giving Morgan a 56-6 third-quarter lead.

Despain completed 12 of 16 passes for 206 yards and two scores. Lance rushed for 68 yards.

Morgan, who will face No. 1 Juab in the semifinals at Southern Utah University, held North Sanpete to 233 yards of total offense and won the turnover battle 4-1.

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 30, ENTERPRISE 26

ENTERPRISE — After No. 3 Enterprise (6-4) scored to take a 26-23 lead with 11:12 left in the game, No. 6 Layton Christian used an 8-minute drive to score last and win the 1A quarterfinal contest.

Tucker Prescott scored on a 3-yard run with 3:12 left to give Layton Christian (8-3) the lead for good. Jessaia Giatras-Moala scored on runs of 66 yards in the first quarter and 57 yards in the third. Zoram Patelo gave the Eagles a 23-20 lead on a 1-yard run with 1:09 left in the third quarter.

LCA advances to face No. 2 Kanab at Southern Utah University in the semifinals.

TIMPVIEW 42, BONNEVILLE 15

OREM — Koy Dixon scored on a 6-yard run to give No. 15 Bonneville a 9-7 lead, then No. 2 Timpview (9-2) responded with five straight touchdowns to take control in the 5A second-round tilt.

Lucas Victorino kicked a 20-yard field goal to get Bonneville on the board first. Qwestyn Fielding found Parker Armstrong for a 14-yard touchdown pass to cap the scoring. The Lakers finish the season with a 6-5 record.

TIMPANOGOS 31, BOX ELDER 29

OREM — No. 8 Timpanogos kicked a 19-yard field goal with 5 seconds left to beat No. 24 Box Elder in the 5A second round.

Box Elder (4-7) scored three second-quarter touchdowns to take a 22-21 lead into the break, then Cooper Stevenson scored on a 1-yard plunge with 8:09 left in the third quarter to take a 29-21 lead. However, Timpanogos (8-2) narrowed the lead to 29-28 on a third quarter rushing touchdown, setting up the final-minute action.

JUAB 31, OGDEN 24

NEPHI — Adam Wilson booted his third field goal — a 29-yarder — to tie the score 24-24 with 5:55 left in the game, but No. 1 Juab answered on a 22-yard scoring pass with 2 minutes left to end the No. 9 Tigers’ season.

Chet Colvin opened the scoring on a 5-yard run for Ogden. Wilson converted from 35 and 39 yards out and Juab led 17-13 at the half. Chino Furness lofted a 45-yard pass to Ozzy Norton with 2:27 left in the third quarter to make the score 24-21 for Juab after three quarters.

Furniss completed 14 of 21 passes for 161 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Norton had eight receptions for 104 yards. Colvin amassed 129 yards on 21 carries, playing with a broken wrist, according to Ogden coach Erik Thompson. The Tigers, who end the year with a 4-7 record, rushed for 201 yards.

VOLLEYBALL

OREM — St. Joseph volleyball split a pair of games in the 2A tournament at Utah Valley University.

The third-seeded Jayhawks beat No 19 Parowan 3-1 in the second round: 24-26, 25-19, 25-20, 25-21.

In the quarterfinals, SJCHS was swept by No. 11 South Sevier, Set scores were 25-18, 25-14, 25-12.

St. Joseph will face No. 10 Duchesne in the one-loss bracket at noon Saturday.
