Fremont High's Amare Harlan crosses the finish line of the 6A girls 200 meter finals at the state track and field championships May 21, 2022, at BYU.

Several area prep track and field athletes took home first place at Saturday’s BYU Invitational track meet.

Fremont High senior Amare Harlan, already the state record-holder in the girls 100-meter dash, set the new state record in the 200 by winning Saturday’s 6A-4A event with a time of 23.63 seconds, breaking Jaslyn Gardner’s old record of 23.75 seconds set in 2017.

Harlan, who is signed with the University of Michigan, also won the 6A-4A girls 100-meter race with a time of 11.72 seconds and the 6A-4A long jump with a wind-aided distance of 19 feet, 7.75 inches, which would have also set the state record if not for the tailwind.

Layton senior Tyler Poole won the 6A-4A shot put and discus events. Poole threw 188 feet, 3.75 inches in the discus and 57 feet, 0.25 inches in the shot put.

Weber senior Eden DeVries coasted to the 100 hurdles title in the 6A-4A division with a time of 14.30 seconds, which was 0.84 seconds ahead of second place.

Weber junior Cami Cvitkovich won the 6A-4A high jump at 5 feet, 7 inches and freshman Joshua Hamblin won the 6A-4A boys long jump, going 21 feet, 9.5 inches.

In the 3A-1A division, Morgan’s Grace Gordon won the 400 with a time of 57.97 seconds and the Trojans’ 4×100 relay team of Bailey Beckstrom, Caitlyn Flitton, Brier Galley and Lucy Tripp took first place with a time of 51.22 seconds.
