Prep roundup: Ogden baseball stays alive in playoffs; Box Elder softball clinches region share

OGDEN — No. 7 Ogden High baseball took a 5-3 lead after the first inning and held off No. 8 Emery in an 8-6 win at Lindquist Field to advance in the 3A tournament one-loss bracket.

Kolton Rich batted 3 for 3 and drove in one for Ogden (18-6). Ellio Saenz hit 2 for 4 and drove in three. Kire Thompson and Adrian Saenz each drove in two. Sean Garceau earned the win with seven strikeouts in six innings pitched.

The Tigers will face No. 5 Union at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 11, at Kearns High in a one-loss bracket game.

WEBER 15, CLEARFIELD 10

CLEARFIELD — Dax Rhees and Ian Carver both had three-hit days and fell just short of hitting for the cycle as Weber evened its series with Clearfield.

Rhees hit a homer, a triple and a double with two RBIs for Weber (6-16, 5-12 Region 1). Carver hit a triple, a double and a single while driving in five. Kody Baur allowed five runs (one earned) over five innings pitched.

Peyton Kotter batted 4 for 5 for Clearfield (3-21, 1-16). Hudson Meyer hit 3 for 3 with two walks and one RBI. Seven different players had one RBI for the Falcons.

FREMONT 11, FARMINGTON 1

FARMINGTON — Calvin Morrow pitched a complete game with four strikeouts and batted 2 for 4 with three RBIs to lead Fremont over Farmington.

Karston Jamison went 2 for 4 and drove in two for Fremont (20-3, 16-1 Region 1).

Jaxon Ball hit a double with one RBI for Farmington (8-16, 7-9).

SYRACUSE 11, DAVIS 7

KAYSVILLE — Isaac Turley hit a triple and drove in four as Syracuse beat Davis.

Carson Miles batted 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI for Syracuse (11-12, 9-8 Region 1). Tag Hamblin hit a three-run double. Calder Millard pitched four innings with five strikeouts in the win.

Max Hunter batted 2 for 3 with a double for Davis (9-15, 9-8). Kaleb Weaver drove in two runs.

CYPRUS 7 & 17, ROY 2 & 3

ROY — Cyprus swept Tuesday’s doubleheader and the season series with Roy to end the regular season.

In the first game, Wyatt Kline batted 4 for 4 and Justin Miller went 3 for 4 with two RBIs for Roy (10-15, 9-9 Region 2). Keldon Venstra pitched a complete game.

In the second game, Smith hit a double with one RBI and Tyler Clark batted 2 for 3. Miller and Taysen Headley drove in one run each.

BOX ELDER 9, BOUNTIFUL 8 (8)

BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to force bonus baseball, then Box Elder plated the winning run in the eighth.

Tommy Greer batted 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs for Box Elder (12-7-1, 9-5 Region 5). KJ Argyle went 3 for 5 with a double and drove in one. Ryan Griffin hit 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Argyle earned the win with four hits allowed and four strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings pitched.

VIEWMONT 8, BONNEVILLE 2

BOUNTIFUL — Bonneville led 1-0 in the top of the third inning but took a region loss at Viewmont.

Enrique Garcia batted 3 for 4 with a triple and an RBI for Bonneville (2-18, 1-13 Region 5). Ryker Allen hit a double.

WOODS CROSS 1, NORTHRIDGE 0

LAYTON — Woods Cross (11-12, 8-6 Region 5) scored in the top of the first and no-hit Northridge (4-16, 3-11) for a region win.

SOFTBALL

BOX ELDER 10, NORTHRIDGE 4

BRIGHAM CITY — Box Elder scored seven runs in the fifth inning to top Northridge and win a share of the Region 5 crown.

Grace Hodgson hit a two-run home run for Box Elder (18-6, 9-1 Region 5). Paige Baker hit an RBI double. Malena Benson batted 3 for 4 and drove in one. Kellie Malan earned the win with two hits and six strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.

Kaylee Sherreffs and Amaya Porter each hit a two-run dinger for Northridge (8-14, 4-6).

BOUNTIFUL 3, BONNEVILLE 2 (8)

BOUNTIFUL — Ella Miller pitched a one-hitter as Bountiful clinched a share of the Region 5 championship in a walk-off win over Bonneville.

Isabeau Hoff batted 2 for 3 and drove in one for Bountiful (18-3, 9-1 Region 5). Jaci Alvey had a hit and stole two bases.

Baylee Andreasen drove in both Bonneville (8-9, 5-5) runs with a triple.

WEBER 4, FREMONT 3

PLEASANT VIEW — Logyn Howell batted 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs as Weber rallied late to beat Fremont.

Brailee Avner hit two doubles and Olivia Boswell batted 2 for 4 for Weber (15-4, 11-1 Region 1). Kendall Strasburg struck out 10 batters in a complete game pitched.

Reata O’Neal hit a solo home run and a double for Fremont (12-9-1, 6-6). Saige Steele went 2 or 3 with a double.

SYRACUSE 15, LAYTON 5

LAYTON — Kenlie Cowdin batted 2 for 4 with a triple as Syracuse outpaced Layton.

Mikela Millard drove in three for Syracuse (12-6, 8-4 Region 1). Grace Thomas batted 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Jaycee Hammon pitched six innings with four strikeouts in the win.

Brenley Boydston batted 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs for Layton (5-13, 3-8).

FARMINGTON 17, DAVIS 8

FARMINGTON — Elle Mortensen batted 2 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs as Farmington downed Davis.

Nev Carrasquel hit 2 for 3 with a home run and drove in two for Farmington (9-5, 8-4 Region 1). Courtney Christiansen went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. Madison Kelker pitched a complete game with two strikeouts.

Abby Olsen batted 4 for 5 with a double, and RBI and scored four runs for Davis (11-8, 5-5). Rayleigh Starnes drove in four on one hit.

BOYS SOCCER

FREMONT 3, WEBER 0

PLEASANT VIEW — Dax Iverson kept a clean sheet in goal as Fremont grabbed a shutout region win at Weber (5-8, 5-7 Region 1) late Monday.

Tyler Ware had two goals and an assist for Fremont (13-3, 9-3). Braxton Laughter netted once and Garrett Bruce tallied an assist.
