Box Elder girls wrestling claimed five individual first-place titles at the annual Warrior Women’s Tournament at Weber High School over the extended, Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

The Bees finished with a tournament-best 311.5 points to finish comfortably above Tooele (2nd, 222) and Weber (3rd, 135) in the final team standings.

Hailey Fisher (135 pounds) defeated Weber’s Charlotte Osborn 6-2 (fall); Brenna Smith (145 pounds) defeated Beaver’s Alexia Joseph 3-0 (fall); MiCayla Christensen (155 pounds) defeated West’s Marin Spanos 3-0 (fall); Kaitlynn Sega (170 pounds) defeated Tooele’s Katie Nielson 3-0 (fall); and Maycee Hales (235 pounds) defeated her teammate Olivia Connelly 9-0 (fall).

Box Elder’s Isabelle Richards (140 pounds) fell short of a sixth team victory in a 16-10 decision in favor of Tooele’s Madison Kortie.

Bonneville produced two individual bracket champions in Corrine Hendricks (105 pounds), defeating Beaver’s Scottlynn Strong 6-0 (fall), and Jayda Mendoza (120 pounds), defeating Box Elder’s Madisyn Johnson 11-2 (major decision).

For her team’s lone win, Weber’s Abigail Giatras (125 pounds) defeated Beaver’s Marie Romo 13-5 (fall). Kiera Cooley (115 pounds), falling to West High’s Claire Beck 5-0 (fall), and Serinity Powers (130 pounds), falling to Tooele’s Riley Hansen 3-0 (fall), each finished one match shy of individual tournament wins.

Dyson flips to Utah State

Northridge senior three-star cornerback Dontae Dyson flipped his commitment to Utah State from Colorado State on Monday.

Dyson missed half of his senior campaign with the 5-6 Knights due to a broken collarbone, but still compiled a stat line of 35 receptions for 502 yards and six touchdowns (including a kickoff return); 23 tackles, five pass break-ups, and one interception.

He’ll join an Aggies program that became bowl-eligible at 6-6 in Bronco Mendenhall’s first season as head coach. USU is bound for the newly realigned Pac-12 in 2026.

Clearfield, Ogden girls stack four wins at Providence Hall

The Clearfield and Ogden girls wrestling teams checked off four victories at the 2025 Girls Brawl at the Hall Invite over the extended holiday weekend at Providence Hall High School.

Clearfield junior Cadence Fox (196 to 218 pounds) went 2-1 with victories over Herriman’s Savannah Karr, 11-5 in 2:45, and Mountain Ridge’s Tina Lotulelei in a scoreless tiebreaker. She dropped her last match of the day to Mountain Ridge’s Abby Birch 3-0 in just 49 seconds.

Ogden freshman Lily Lowry (136 to 146 pounds) defeated Riverton’s Peyton Featherstone 10-5 in 3:47 for a 1-3 overall finish in her visit.

Burchell Classic tips off this week

The annual Burchell Classic returns to Bonneville and Ogden High Schools on Thursday with a four-game girls basketball tournament slated through the end of Friday.

The first round of games (Weber/Bonneville, 5:15 p.m.; Bear River/Ogden, 7 p.m.) tip off Thursday at Ogden High. Winners from Thursday meet at Bonneville on Friday at 7 p.m. A consolation round is scheduled for 5:15 p.m., also at Bonneville.

Bullinger bumps Bees in gear

Weber State basketball alum Kyle Bullinger has the Box Elder boys basketball team at 3-0 with three consecutive, nonregion wins over Logan (63-44), Bear River (56-49) and Mountain Crest (57-53) to begin the season. Bullinger jumped from Region 5 neighbor Bonneville to Brigham City during the offseason and already has half of the Bees’ win total of 6-17 last season under two different head coaches.

Sophomore forward Eli Gilmore leads the Bees with a nightly average of 14.0 points through three games. Box Elder’s top 3 scorers – including guards Krew Peterson (13.0 ppg) and Ryan Jenson (12.3 ppg) – are all averaging double figures to begin the year.

Box Elder welcomes Sky View on Tuesday. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
