Prep basketball roundup: Box Elder boys hold off Clearfield for region win

BRIGHAM CITY — Mayson Jeppsen scored a game-high 17 points to lead Box Elder High boys basketball to a 57-51 region win over Clearfield on Wednesday.
Carter Buchanan tallied 10 points for Box Elder (5-17, 5-8 Region 5). Krew Peterson and Jantzen Vranes each added nine points.
Jaxson Bishop paced Clearfield (3-19, 1-12) with 15 points on four 3-pointers. Michael Creel added 10 points and Elijah Dankwa scored seven.
BOUNTIFUL 67, ROY 46
ROY — Colby Frokjer tallied a double double for Roy with 11 points and 10 rebounds but the Royals fell at home to Bountiful (18-4, 12-1 Region 5).
Tyrece Holbrook tallied eight points for Roy (6-15, 4-9) and Ben Stirland added seven.

BRIGHAM CITY — Clearfield outscored Box Elder 24-6 across the second and third quarters in a sizable road win.
Xiyah Yarbrough led all scorers with 14 points for Clearfield (16-6, 11-2 Region 5). Izzy Wyaskett tallied nine points while Ciara Da La O and Gretchen Higley each scored six.
Jocelyn Vranes paced Box Elder (2-20, 1-12) with eight points. Brooklyn Burt added seven points.
BOUNTIFUL 71, ROY 20
ROY — Bountiful (19-2, 13-0 Region 5) outscored Roy 42-6 in the second half in a big road win.
Iva Hunt and Jerzee Hart each scored six points for Roy (7-14, 5-5).
FREMONT 51, SYRACUSE 41
PLAIN CITY — After Syracuse led 27-23 at halftime, Fremont clamped down to hand the Titans their first region loss with a 28-14 second half on Tuesday.
Abby Christensen led Fremont (19-3, 7-2 Region 1) with 22 points, including 13 points with three 3-pointers in the second half. Mia McArthur added seven points and Maya Jensen added six.
Maylee Anderson scored 14 points for Syracuse (18-3, 8-1). Rachel McBride added 10 points.
ST. JOSEPH 65, FREEDOM PREP 11
OGDEN — No. 8 St. Joseph ran away from No. 25 Freedom Prep (4-18) with a 22-0 fourth quarter to claim a 2A first-round playoff win Tuesday.
Abby Gough led St. Joseph (15-5) with 16 points. Mimi DeWitte scored 14 points. Lizze Randall and Lhondyn Tillman each added 10 points.
St. Joseph next hosts No. 9 American Heritage (11-7) on Friday night.
