FARMINGTON — Northridge High led Farmington 12-10 after one quarter, but the Phoenix outscored the Knights 43-23 the rest of the way to win their first girls basketball game in school history, 53-35, on their first try.

Valerie Kunzler led all scorers with 18 points on five 3-pointers for Farmington. Abigail Ferrell had 10 points for the Phoenix.

Taylor Morris led Northridge with 12 points. Jennica Hess scored eight and Michaela Harris added seven for the Knights.

FREMONT 63, RIVERTON 51

PLAIN CITY — Defending 6A state champion Fremont led 38-24 at halftime to start its season off with a win over Riverton.

Emma Calvert led Fremont with 17 points. Freshman Timea Gardiner poured in 14 and Averee Porter netted 13 for the Silver Wolves.

WEBER 44, HIGHLAND 38

SALT LAKE CITY — Weber outscored Highland 15-5 in the second quarter to take a 21-11 halftime lead in the road win.

Paige Aardema paced Weber with 14 points, three rebounds and two blocks. Ashley Liund talled 11 points and six rebounds while Sarah Pollard added eight points, four assists, two steals and two rebounds for the Warriors.

SYRACUSE 31, BONNEVILLE 28

SYRACUSE — Bonneville led at Syracuse 21-17 after three quarters, but the Titans outscored the Lakers 14-7 in the final frame to open their season.

Rachel Godfrey led Syracuse with nine points, three rebounds, one assist and one block.

Gracie Sorensen added eight points, three assists, three rebounds and two blocks for the Titans.

Ashley Croyle led the Lakers with nine points while Jenna Czarnecki added six.

ST. JOSEPH 39, BEN LOMOND 25

OGDEN — St. Joseph took a 21-11 halftime lead at Ben Lomond, then pulled away in the second half for a road win.

Virginia Tomon led all scorers with 18 points for St. Joseph. LaDeitra Hobson scored 11 points for Ben Lomond.

UTAH MILITARY ACADEMY 27, DUGWAY 18

DUGWAY — Utah Military Academy held Dugway to four first-half points and opened its season with a win on the road.

Kaylie Williams led UMA with points. Josie Jacobson netted six points and Adison Felix added four for the Thunderbirds.

LAYTON 45, WOODS CROSS 23

WOODS CROSS — Layton held Woods Cross scoreless in the second quarter on the way to a season-opening win. Statistics weren't reported.

MORGAN 43, PARK CITY 29

PARK CITY — Morgan led Park City 14-11 at the break, then ran away in the second half for the road win.

Alexa Brooks led Morgan with 12 points on two 3-pointers, five steals and four rebounds. Janel Blazzard added eight points, three steals, two assists and two rebounds for the Trojans.

BOUNTIFUL 62, COTTONWOOD 38

BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful led 14-7 after on quarter and cruised to the season-opening win over Cottonwood.

Waverly Bowman led Bountiful with 15 points, while Samantha Salmon netted nine and Dashani Purcell added eight for the Braves.

COPPER HILLS 83, CLEARFIELD 49

CLEARFIELD — Clearfield fell behind 16-3 to Copper Hills after one quarter in the home loss.

Miranda Mansfield and Makailey Cregger each scored 14 points to lead Clearfield. Kiersten Boyack added eight for the Falcons.

WEST 44, DAVIS 38

SALT LAKE CITY — Davis took a 15-7 lead after one quarter at West but couldn’t hold the lead in the road loss.

Kylee Mabry led Davis with nine points. Kelsey Leavitt added seven for the Darts.

BOYS BASKETBALL

SYRACUSE 77, WOODS CROSS 70

WOODS CROSS — Syracuse cruised to a 55-44 lead after three quarters, then held off a Woods Cross charge in the final frame to pick up the opening-day win.

Blake Soifua led all scorers with 28 points for Syracuse. Dylan Hawkes added 12 and Keaton Seaich netted eight point for the Titans.

CLEARFIELD 57, VIEWMONT 52

BOUNTIFUL — Clearfield took a 40-31 lead into the fourth quarter, then held off a Viewmont charge to pick up the road win.

Connor Ixatt led all scorers with 26 point on three 3-pointers and 9 of 11 shooting for Clearfield. Riley Clearley pulled down 11 rebounds while Junior Lealeo had three steals and two assists for the Falcons, who shot 56.8 percent from the field as a team.

Parker Kearns had 16 points with four treys and four rebounds to pace Viewmont.

LOGAN 81, OGDEN 53

LOGAN — Ogden fell behind 52-32 at halftime, then Logan outscored the Tigers 23-7 in the third quarter of the teams' season opener. Stats weren't reported.

CYPRUS 63, BEN LOMOND 57

MAGNA — Garet Rentmeister led all scorers with 27 points, but Ben Lomond dropped its season-opener at Cyprus.

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 82, MANTI 71

MANTI — Lino Saez had 28 points on 13 of 16 shooting with 10 rebounds as Layton Christian knocked off defending 3A state champion Manti in the season opener.

AMERICAN FORK 89, LAYTON 66

OREM — Collin Jeppson scored a team-high 15 points, but Layton fell behind 44-25 in a loss against American Fork in a game played at Utah Valley University. Tanner Kofoed scored 13 points and Ethan Potter added 10 for the Lancers. AF forward Isaac Johnson, an Oregon commit, led all scorers with 22 points.

WATERFORD 66, ST. JOSEPH 58 (OT)

OGDEN — Waterford outscored St. Joseph 13-7 over the last four minutes of the fourth quarter to tie the game at 58 and force overtime, then held the Jayhawks scoreless in extra time to send St. Joseph to defeat in their opening game.
