Three Northern Utah high school student-athletes received national honors after the conclusion of the spring sports season.
Bountiful softball player Dashani Purcell was named a MaxPreps Sophomore All-American as part of the website’s underclassmen All-American teams.
Fremont baseball player Kyler Bush and Davis baseball player Zack Mansfield were both named to the USA TODAY All-USA Utah Baseball Team. Bush and Mansfield were both placed on the second team.
Purcell batted .505 this season with a .609 on-base percentage in 32 games as part of a Braves team that won the Region 5 championship and finished as 5A state runners-up. Purcell, a Standard-Examiner All-Area Softball first-teamer, batted in 56 runs with seven doubles, two triples and 17 home runs.
The 17 single-season home runs represent the third-highest total in UHSAA recorded history while the 56 RBIs is tied for fifth-most in a single season. Through two seasons, Purcell already has 23 home runs, tied for eighth-most all-time in the state.
Bush, this year’s Standard-Examiner All-Area Baseball MVP, had a 5-2 pitching record with a 2.51 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 39 innings and also batted .308 with team-highs in RBIs (22) and home runs (4) to go with six doubles.
Mansfield, an All-Area first-teamer, batted .364 with a .500 on-base percentage with 22 RBIs, four doubles, three triples, five home runs and 15 stolen bases as Davis won the Region 1 championship.
