OREM — Bountiful led Lone Peak 40-31 at halftime on the way to a 71-58 win over the defending 6A state champions in the Utah Valley University Tip Off tournament on Wednesday night.

Camron Chism paced Bountiful with 26 points on six 3-pointers. Rob Whaley netted 17 and Brig Willard added 16 points for the Braves.

BEAR RIVER 84, LEHI 82

LEHI — Parker Coombs hit a layup at the buzzer to give Bear River a season-opening victory at Lehi.

Bear River led 44-37 at the half, but the Pioneers used a 24-15 third quarter to take a 2-point lead going into the fourth. Logan Litchford scored for Bear River with 44 seconds left to tie the game at 82.

The Bears forced two turnovers in the final minute and ended up with the ball under their own basket with 2 seconds left.

Mark Huber’s inbounds pass went to Coombs cutting to the basket, and he finished to give Bear River the victory.

Huber, who scored 23 points to lead the Bears, had the opportunity to break the 82-82 tie and give Bear River the lead on a trip to the free throw line with under 10 seconds left, but missed both attempts.

Ren Fonnesbeck tallied 19 points, Coombs added 17 and Litchford added 11.

TIMPVIEW 74,

BOX ELDER 61

OREM — Box Elder trailed Timpview 53-35 after three quarters, then scored 26 points in the final frame to make the score more respectable in a Utah Valley University Tip Off tournament game.

Tyson Madson led Box Elder with 23 points and Parker Buchanan added 21.

WASATCH ACADEMY 91, LAYTON CHRISTIAN 56

MT. PLEASANT — Layton Christian hung with Wasatch Academy for more than two quarters, but the Tigers went on a 23-0 run in the second half to hand LCA a 91-56 loss.

Lino Saez led the Eagles with 14 points and hit a 3-pointer to cut Wasatch Academy’s lead to 43-37 with 5:42 left in the third quarter.

The Tigers and their roster of Division I-caliber players then put the game to bed their 23-0 run across seven minutes of the second half.

Sam Muller added 13 points and Jesus Tomasi scored 12 for LCA. Wasatch Academy was led by Marvin Williams with 18 points.

PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL

BEAR RIVER 78,

MORGAN 64

GARLAND — Bear River outscored Morgan 52-38 in the second half for a home win after the teams were tied 26-26 at the break.

Makenzie Bywater led all scorers with 25 points for Bear River. Abbie Fuhriman poured in 21 points and Emma Bitner added 10 for the Bears.

Jacie House scored 18 to pace the Trojans, while Janel Blazzard had 15 and Meagan Matthews added 10 points.

VIEWMONT 58

BOUNTIFUL — Viewmont dropped its season-opening game to Herriman. Stats weren’t reported.

STANSBURY 51,

BEAR RIVER 42

GARLAND — Stansbury outscored Bear River 20-7 in what proved to be a decisive second quarter in Tuesday night’s season opener. Stats weren’t reported.
