LAYTON — Trailing 50-48 with 4.5 seconds left Friday, Northridge’s Alec Duffin drove to the basket and passed to the corner where Jaret Duft sank a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to give the Knights a dramatic and vital win, 51-50.

Duffin led all scorers with 27 points, 21 of which were in the first half as the Knights (8-11, 3-5 Region 1) led 25-24 at the break. Duft totaled 11 points.

Blake Soifua led Syracuse (5-14, 1-7) with 20 points.

LAYTON 89,

CLEARFIELD 47

LAYTON — Layton led 44-17 at halftime and outscored Clearfield 30-12 in the third quarter of a dominant win.

Ethan Potter led all scorers with 20 points (15 in the first half) while Collin Jeppson and Ryan Lowder had 14 apiece for the Lancers (8-8, 5-2 Region 1).

Twelve players scored for Layton, the Lancers totaled 27 assists on 33 made baskets and they shot 62.3 percent from the field.

Kaden Swanson led Clearfield (5-12, 1-7 Region 1) with 14 points.

BONNEVILLE 57,

TOOELE 50

TOOELE — Bonneville outscored Tooele 21-13 in the final quarter for a region road win.

Zach Alspaugh led a balanced Bonneville (12-5, 6-2 Region 11) attack with 13 points. Luke Dixon scored 12, Jordan Citte added 10 while Tyler Hancock and Hank Bushell each had nine points.

Justin Rogers led all scorers with 19 points for Tooele (9-11, 4-4).

BOUNTIFUL 83,

BOX ELDER 64

BOUNTIFUL — Camron Chism scored 14 of his 16 points in the first half as Bountiful (12-7, 5-0 Region 5) led 52-31 at the break in a big win over Box Elder (3-12, 1-4).

Box Elder’s Parker Buchanan had a monster 32-point game and went 8 of 10 from the foul line. Ronnie Smith chipped in 11 points for the Bees.

Brig Willard scored 15 points and Robert Whaley added 13 for Bountiful.

ROY 67, VIEWMONT 63

BOUNTIFUL — Porter Thackeray scored a game-high 20 points with six rebounds and Roy made an 18-8 third quarter hold as the Royals (6-10, 2-3 Region 5) beat Viewmont (4-12, 2-3) on the road.

Kobe Schriver scored 15 points and Justin Kirkland had 10 for Roy.

Dallin May led four Viewmont players in double figures with 15 points to go with 10 rebounds. Gavin Chowen and Parker Kearns had 14 points apiece and Brash Emery chipped in 11.

STANSBURY 72,

OGDEN 41

STANSBURY — Austin Richards scored 14 points as Ogden (4-14, 1-8 Region 11) fell behind 30-13 at halftime in a loss against Stansbury. Isaiah Coria added six points for the Tigers.

PARK CITY 69,

BEN LOMOND 45

OGDEN — Titus Hughes and Stephon Watson scored 10 points apiece as Ben Lomond (6-11, 1-7 Region 11) fell to Park City at home.

The Scots trailed 16-12 after the first quarter, then were outscored 17-8 in the second frame. Garet Rentmeister added nine points on three 3-pointers for Ben Lomond.

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 98, ALTAMONT 53

ALTAMONT — Layton Christian scored 56 points in the first half on the way to a region win at Altamont.

Lino Saez and Sam Muller each scored 18 points to lead the Eagles (16-6, 8-0 Region 16). Micah Petty netted 14 and Jesus Tomasi added 13 points.

LCA, which made nine 3-pointers as a team, can clinch at least a share of the Region 16 championship with a win against St. Joseph next Tuesday.

BEAR RIVER 84,

GREEN CANYON 68

NORTH LOGAN — Bear River took control with a 22-12 first quarter and held off Green Canyon (15-6, 4-2 Region 12) for a region road win.

Kelton Summers led all scorers with a season and career-best 27 points for Bear River (15-5, 4-2). The result pulls Bear River into a four-way tie with Logan, Sky View and Green Canyon for Region 12’s top seed.

MORGAN 64, GRANTSVILLE 41

MORGAN — Morgan outscored Grantsville (3-14, 2-4 Region 13) 38-13 in the second half to reverse a 28-26 halftime deficit and clinch the Region 13 championship outright.

Trey Miles led Morgan (15-5, 7-0) with a game-high 19 points. Carter Thackeray and Kaleb Calderwood each added nine points.

DUCHESNE 50,

ST. JOSEPH 48

OGDEN — St. Joseph’s comeback bid came up just short as the Jayhawks dropped a home region contest to Duchesne (8-10, 2-6 Region 16).

St. Joseph trailed 25-21 at the half and 41-31 after three quarters.

Sayveon Armstrong led the Jayhawks (9-11, 3-5) with 30 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals. Gavin Andersen added six points, 10 rebounds and three steals.

FARMINGTON 58,

WOODS CROSS 57

FARMINGTON — Kendall Draxler hit one of two free throws with 13 seconds left to break a 57-57 tie and lift Farmington (9-9, 2-3 Region 5) to score an upset win over Woods Cross (12-4, 3-2).

The Phoenix outscored the Wildcats 25-9 in the third quarter, then held off a Woods Cross charge in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats missed a potential game-winning shot at the buzzer.

Draxler led the Phoenix with 22 points. McKay Thomsen and Jack Davis added 10 apiece.

The result puts the Phoenix in a three-way tie with Viewmont and Roy for third place in the region standings.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

LAYTON 51,

CLEARFIELD 37

LAYTON — Layton outscored Clearfield (4-15, 0-10 Region 1) 29-17 in the second half of a region win.

The result keeps the Lancers (11-6, 4-5 Region 1) one game behind fourth-place Syracuse in the region standings. No stats were reported.

SYRACUSE 42, NORTHRIDGE 38

LAYTON — Syracuse outscored Northridge (5-14, 1-9 Region 1) 22-12 in the first half, then held on in the second half to beat the Knights on the road. No stats were reported.

With the win, the Titans (12-6, 5-4 Region 1) maintained their one-game lead on Layton for fourth place in Region 1.

VIEWMONT 46, ROY 17

BOUNTIFUL — Viewmont took a 26-7 led into the break in a region win over Roy.

Lauren Weir scored a game-high 10 points to lead Viewmont (7-11, 4-3 Region 5). Abi Jewett added six points and 11 Vikings lit the scoreboard.

Autumn Vernon led Roy (0-17, 0-7) with six points.

BOX ELDER 76,

BOUNTIFUL 47

BOUNTIFUL — Emily Isaacson scored 24 points in a region win at Bountiful that puts Box Elder one win away from clinching the Region 5 championship.

Morgan Reeder netted 21 points and Jenna Mortensen added 10 for the Bees (14-5, 7-0 Region 5).

Baily Jenkins led Bountiful (6-13, 1-6 Region 5) with 11 points. Nancy Astorga scored 10.

BEN LOMOND 38,

PARK CITY 32 (2OT)

OGDEN — After holding Park City to six points in the second half to force overtime, Ben Lomond spotted the Miners the first five points in the second overtime, then finished the game on an 11-0 run to claim a region win.

LaDeitra Hobson led Ben Lomond (4-13, 2-6 Region 11) with eight points and Andie Boothe added seven.

Courtney Kaufmann scored a game-high 11 points for Park City (1-17, 1-8).

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 44, ALTAMONT 35

ALTAMONT — Layton Christian outscored Altamont 17-8 in a decisive second quarter to take control in a region road win.

Danyale Thomas led all scorers with 19 points for Layton Christian (7-13, 4-4 Region 16), who hit six 3-pointers as a team.

The win ties LCA in the Region 16 standings with Altamont (10-7, 4-4), but the Eagles have defeated Altamont twice and own a head-to-head tiebreaker.

DUCHESNE 35,

ST. JOSEPH 28

OGDEN — St. Joseph entered the fourth quarter tied 25-25 only to see Duchesne (11-5, 6-1 Region 16) win the final frame 10-3.

Virginia Tomon scored nine points and pulled down 12 rebounds to pace St. Joseph. Camryn Ingram added seven points and Sydney Brown had seven rebounds.

FARMINGTON 48,

WOODS CROSS 38

FARMINGTON — Farmington led 10-5 after the first quarter and steadily added to its lead in a region win over Woods Cross.

Maloree Chisholm led Farmington (11-7, 5-2 Region 5) with 14 points and Naomi Kehl added 12.

Riley Aiono scored a game-high 16 point to lead Woods Cross (6-11, 4-3).

STANSBURY 58,

OGDEN 44

STANSBURY — Ogden (5-12, 3-5 Region 11) trailed Stansbury 26-23 at the half, then was outscored 21-3 in the third quarter in a region loss. No stats were reported.
