Fremont vs. Davis BBB 19

Fremont defeated Davis in a boys varsity basketball game Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, at Fremont High School in Plain City.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Overall, there’s not much change in the rankings this week. However, Weber visits Syracuse on Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. in what’s likely a game to decide the third seed from Region 1.

1. Fremont

Last week: 1

Notes: With two games to go, Fremont (17-1, 10-0 Region 1) is settled in as the top seed once the state playoffs begin in two weeks. Should the Silver Wolves win both their remaining region games, they’ll finish unbeaten in region the second year in a row.

2. Box Elder

Last week: 2

Notes: While everyone else in the region is more or less beating up on each other, Box Elder (14-5, 7-0) hasn’t lost a game in nearly a month. The Bees’ average margin of victory in region games is 22.3 points and they can wrap up the region title and top seed with a win on Tuesday.

3. Davis

Last week: 3

Notes: Davis (13-5, 7-2 Region 1) held off Weber before falling at Fremont on Friday. So far, everyone who’s played Fremont has met a brutal ending, so there’s not a whole lot of reason to drop the Darts in the rankings.

4. Syracuse

Last week: 5

Notes: The Titans (12-6, 5-4 Region 1) took care of business in region games against Northridge and Clearfield. The 12 wins to date represent the best win total for Syracuse since the 2011-12 season when the Titans went 22-0 and won the state title.

5. Weber

Last week: 4

Notes: There’s something about playing Davis that just throws Weber out of sync. This time, the Warriors (13-5, 6-3 Region 1) shot 9 of 56 from the field and as such are looking at the No. 3 seed instead of No. 2.

BOYS BASKETBALL

The boys rankings don’t have much change either. Bountiful and Woods Cross meet this week.

1. Bountiful

Last week: 1

Notes: Another week, another double-digit win for the Braves (12-7, 5-0). This Wednesday gives basketball fans one of the most highly anticipated matchups of the year: Bountiful at Woods Cross.

2. Fremont

Last week: 3

Notes: After beating Davis to take control of Region 1, Fremont (14-4, 8-0 Region 1) moves up to No. 2 this week on the back of two nice wins last week as well as the good run of form the Silver Wolves are on right now.

3. Woods Cross

Last week: 2

Notes: Here’s how the last four of the Wildcats’ (12-4, 3-2 Region 5) region games have finished: triple overtime win over Farmington, one-point loss to Viewmont, two-point win at Box Elder, one-point loss at Farmington on Friday. A massive home rivalry game with Bountiful awaits on Wednesday.

4. Davis

Last week: 4

Notes: Davis (12-7, 6-2 Region 1) was a better-drawn inbounds play away from potentially knocking off Fremont on the road in spectacular comeback fashion. Even so, the Darts showed a ton of improvement this time around against the Silver Wolves this time around.

5. Layton Christian

Last week: 5

Notes: The Eagles, as expected, are on a tear. LCA (16-6, 8-0 Region 16) can clinch at least a share of the region championship with a win on Tuesday against St. Joseph.
