DRAPER — Roy baseball scored two runs in the first inning, then Farmington took control with three runs in the fifth to win a 5A one-loss bracket contest 6-2 on Saturday at Juan Diego Catholic High School.

Ethan Trump batted 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored for Farmington (16-12). Brandon Young added a two-run single while Trey Farr and Otis Maire each hit doubles. Sam Graves earned the win, with one hit and four strikeouts over 3 1/3 innings in relief.

Jaxson Dart led Roy at the plate, batting 3 for 4 with one RBI and one run scored. Miles Gage drove in the other Roy run on a sacrifice fly. The Royals end the season at 18-10 overall, winning the Region 5 title with a 10-5 mark.

Farmington moves on to face Maple Mountain at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 20, at Kearns High School.


KEARNS — Maple Mountain (15-12) eliminated Viewmont in a 5A one-loss bracket game at Kearns High School. No stats were reported. Viewmont finishes the season 10-17 overall, 9-6 in Region 5 play.




SPANISH FORK — Spanish Fork (27-7) scored two runs in the eighth inning to end Bear River’s season in the 4A one-loss bracket semifinals.

Bear River trailed 6-4 going into the bottom of the seventh when Oaklee Trapp hit a two-run home run to tie the game. The Bears had a chance to win it later that inning, loading the bases with one out, but an infield fly turned into a fluke double play to end the threat.

Oaklie Maxfield hit a two-run homer to get Bear River (21-12) on the board in the third. The next batter, Kodi Gibbs, followed Maxfield’s bomb with a solo shot to pull the Bears to within 4-3.

Bear River finishes with an undefeated Region 12 campaign and a 21-12 overall record.


6A and 5A tournament matches Saturday were played at the Eccles Tennis Center and Salt Lake Tennis Center due to inclement weather.


SALT LAKE CITY — In No. 1 singles, Danny Zlotnick from Davis High defeated Ethan Wood (Pleasant Grove) 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in the semifinals before losing in the state championship to TJ Wells (Lone Peak) 6-1, 6-1. The Darts finished fifth as a team with six points. Lone Peak won the team title with 26 points.


SALT LAKE CITY — Woods Cross sent three players into the semifinals and finished 4th in the 5A state tournament.

In No. 1 singles, Spencer Johnson (Woods Cross) beat Timpview’s Josh Pearce 6-3, 6-1 in the semifinals, then lost to Brighton’s Redd Owen 6-4, 6-3 in the championship.

In No. 2 Singles, Skyline’s Michael Cherchio beat Holden Iverson (Woods Cross) 6-4, 7-6 (1) in the semifinals.

In No. 3 Singles, Peter Richards (Woods Cross) lost 6-2, 6-2 to Spencer Willes from Corner Canyon in the semifinals.
