LAYTON — Journee McDowell blasted a penalty kick through the Westlake keeper six minutes into extra time to send two-seed Layton (12-4-2) to the 6A semifinals with a 2-1 win on Thursday night.

Westlake netted off a corner kick to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Susan Sweeten headed in a Kaitlyn Richins corner in the 76th minute to equalize and force extra time.

Layton will face Region 1 rival Davis in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Juan Diego High School.

DAVIS 2, AMERICAN FORK 1

AMERICAN FORK — Davis took a 2-1 halftime lead and made the score hold up in an upset win at Region 4 champion and one-seed American Fork.

Zoe Jacobs and Allie Heath each netted for three-seed Davis (11-4-2). The Darts will face Layton on Tuesday, giving Region 1 three of the four spots in the 6A semifinals.

LONE PEAK 1, NORTHRIDGE 0

HIGHLAND — Lone Peak scored a first-half goal to eliminate Northridge from the 6A state tournament.

Four-seed Northridge, who saw its seven-game win streak come to an end, finished the year at 10-8-1.

SKYLINE 2, VIEWMONT 1 (2OT)

BOUNTIFUL — Two-seed Skyline found the back of the net in the second stanza of extra time to eliminate Viewmont in the 5A state tournament.

Sydney Anderson scored a second-half goal for top-seed Viewmont. The Region 5 champions end the season at 13-4.

MURRAY 5, ROY 1

ROY — Roy fell behind 4-1 at the half in a 5A quarterfinal loss at top-seed Murray.

Dylan Dingman scored for second-seeded Roy. The Royals end the year at 11-7, their first winning season in 15 years.

BEAVER 4, UTAH MILITARY 2

BEAVER — Utah Military Academy trailed 3-1 going into the break in a 2A play-in game loss at four-seed Beaver.

Lexi Johnson and Haley Slater each scored for the fifth-seeded Thunderbirds, who trailed 3-1 at the half. Gabby Faulkner assisted Slater. UMA finished the season at 2-9.

VOLLEYBALL

SYRACUSE 3, NORTHRIDGE 1

LAYTON — Syracuse stayed unbeaten in region play by defeating Northridge in four sets: 25-18, 25-21, 21-25, 25-15.

Megan Chandler and Lauren Sotomayor led Syracuse at the net (20-5, 9-0 Region 1) with 18 kills each. Hailee Garcia dished 58 of the 59 Titan assists. Brianna Hardy had four blocks and Paityn Williams led with 22 digs.

Brighton Williams paced Northridge (8-10, 5-5) with 18 assists and 12 digs.

WEBER 3, FREMONT 2

PLEASANT VIEW — Weber outlasted Fremont (12-6, 6-3 Region 1) in a roller-coaster match that went five sets. Scores were 25-17, 18-25, 28-26, 16-25, 15-13.

Sarah Longhurst paced Weber (16-8, 6-4) with 14 kills and 17 digs. Alyssa Hansen added 13 kills while Sarah Longhurst had 14 kills and 17 digs. Makaylee Nye posted six blocks and Tylin Tilley tallied 18 digs for the Warriors.

CLEARFIELD 3, LAYTON 1

LAYTON — Clearfield (3-11, 2-8 Region 1) won at Layton (4-14, 1-8) in four sets by scores of 20-25, 25-23, 25-20, 29-27.

FARMINGTON 3, ROY 0

FARMINGTON — Farmington beat Roy in straight sets by scores of 25-18, 25-14, 25-16.

Madison Gundry led the Phoenix (10-10, 3-5 Region 5) with 13 kills. Alyssa Skabelund had 8 kills and 4 blocks. Lexi Todd tallied 20 digs and Jade Flitton added 16 digs.

BOX ELDER 3, WOODS CROSS 1

BRIGHAM CITY — Box Elder (17-2, 8-0 Region 5) beat Woods Cross (10-7, 5-3) by scores of 25-15, 15-25, 25-21, 25-12.

With the win, the Bees clinch at least a share of the Region 5 crown.

BONNEVILLE 3, STANSBURY 1

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Bonneville dropped the first set but won the next three for a region win over Stansbury. Scores were 14-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-11.

Abby Van Vossen paced Bonneville (13-13, 6-5 Region 11) at the net with 10 kills and four blocks. Kelsie Heslop had nine kills and five blocks while Mikayla Buckway added two kills and nine blocks. Libero Avery Best tallied 22 digs. Setter Halle Morgan dished 21 assists and served four aces. Gracee Elton had four aces and 14 digs and Sydnee Smith tallied one ace and 17 digs.

GREEN CANYON 3, BEAR RIVER 1

NORTH LOGAN — Bear River (5-13, 2-8 Region 12) won the second set to tie the match 1-1, but Green Canyon won the next two to claim the region win 25-12, 22-25, 25-17, 25-12. The loss eliminated Bear River from playoff contention.

ST. JOSEPH 3, LAYTON CHRISTIAN 0

LAYTON — St. Joseph grabbed a straight-sets victory at Layton Christian by scores of 25-12, 25-19, 25-15.

Amy Tekverk led St. Joseph (12-14, 5-4 Region 16) with 11 kills. Madeline Holl tallied seven kills and 13 digs, Shaylie Bonneau added four kills and 16 digs, and Victoria Arlofski had five kills and five digs. Camryn Ingram tallied nine assists, seven digs and three aces. Anne Davis had 16 digs and three aces.

MORGAN 3, SOUTH SUMMIT 0

KAMAS — Morgan (12-7, 6-0 Region 13) clinched the Region 13 championship with a sweep at South Summit (10-8, 5-2). Scores were 25-22, 27-25, 25-21.

Emery Wheeler led the Trojans with 24 kills and eight digs. Abbie Cox had 13 kills and 10 digs. Ausha Hales tallied 11 kills, Kate Korth had 13 digs and Elle Anderson dished 52 assists.

BOUNTIFUL 3, VIEWMONT 0

BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful (11-7, 6-2 Region 5) swept Viewmont (9-16, 2-6) by scores of 25-23, 25-19, 25-23.

PARK CITY AT OGDEN (PPD)

OGDEN — The contest between Park City (15-5, 10-0 Region 11) and Ogden (6-11, 2-8) has been rescheduled to Monday, Oct. 15.

BONNEVILLE 17, STANSBURY 7

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Bonneville (4-5, 2-3 Region 11) took a 17-0 lead into halftime on the way to a region win over Stansbury (6-3, 4-1).

The Lakers set the tone early early with a touchdown on their first drive of the game. Bonneville extended the lead with a touchdown and a field goal in the second quarter.

The Stallions lit the scoreboard on their first drive of the second half, but were stymied by the Bonneville defense the rest of the game.
