Raptors hits punchless in 6-2 loss to Missoula

By Brett Hein - | Aug 28, 2021

OGDEN — Zach Almond hit his league-leading 25th home run in the second inning for a 2-0 lead and, when Chris Eusay hit a solo shot off Ogden starter Reza Aleaziz in the third, that was all Missoula would need in a 6-2 win Saturday at Lindquist Field, the Paddleheads’ fourth straight win over Ogden in the series.

Cameron Thompson scored on a Raul Shah error later in the third for a 4-0 lead and AJ Wright scored on a wild pitch in the fourth for a 5-0 Missoula advantage.

Jakob Goldfarb led off the sixth for Ogden with a single and, after Pavin Parks was hit by a pitch, Goldfarb stole third and was able to reach home on a throwing error for a 5-1 mark with Parks on second. But David Maberry struck out, Raul Shah grounded out and Dom Abbadessa struck out, and the Raptors missed a chance to rally.

Niko Pacheco doubled in Josh Broughton in the seventh for Ogden’s other run.

Missoula only outhit Ogden 11-10, but Pacheco’s double was the only extra-base hit for the Raptors. The Paddleheads added two doubles to the two aforementioned homers.

Aleaziz took the loss. Cole Cook got the win in five innings, allowing one run. Mark Simon threw 2 1/3 scoreless to get the save for Missoula, allowing just one hit. Missoula’s three pitchers combined to strike out 11 Raptors while walking none.

The teams play the fifth game of the six-game set at 4 p.m. Sunday.
