Ogden Raptors pitcher Evan Parker (34) winds up to pitch in a game Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Lindquist Field in Ogden. Parker became the first Ogden native to play for the Raptors with his appearance in the game.

Josh Elvir hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning for the Grand Junction Rockies, tagging Ogden Raptors starter Tom Walker for the dinger, and the Raptors played from behind from the start in a 12-7 loss Thursday to the visitors in the second game of the 2022 season.

But history was made when Evan Parker took the mound at Lindquist Field in the ninth inning, becoming the first native of Ogden City to ever suit up for the Raptors. It was also Parker’s first appearance in a professional baseball game since 2015 when he was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers and has since suffered a string of elbow injuries that have required three procedures.

The only other known Weber County native to suit up for the Raptors is Tycen PoVey, who was raised in Washington Terrace but prepped at Northridge High School. He appeared in 11 games for the Raptors in 2007.

The home crowd did see the first Raptors home runs of the season when shortstop Fox Semones led off the bottom of the first with a solo homer and first baseman Freddy Achecar hit a two-run home run in the fourth, the latter cutting Grand Junction’s lead to 6-3.

Ogden got it as close as 7-6 in the fifth inning when outfielder Josh Broughton singled in two with the bases loaded and outfielder Anthony Ray later scored on a passed ball.

But Grand Junction shortstop Chris Vazquez doubled in two runs in the next frame to make it 9-6 and that was enough for the Rockies to get in the win column.

Parker surrendered two hits and one run, striking out one while walking one, in the ninth.

Semones hit 3 for 5 and scored two runs. Broughton hit 3 for 5 with a double.

The same two teams finish their six-game series with games at 7 p.m. Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday and 2 p.m. Monday.
