Brett De Geus matched his longest outing of the season and the Ogden Raptors supported him with runs early, running away from the Orem Owlz 13-5 on Friday to open a four-game road trip.

Marcus Chiu singled in a run and Niko Hulsizer walked with the bases loaded to get Ogden (41-24, 15-12) on the board.

In the second, Dillon Paulson hit a two-RBI double and scored when James Outman homered, putting the Raptors up 7-1.

Ronny Brito hit his 11th homer of the season in the fifth, a two-run shot, for a 9-3 lead.

The runs kept coming in twos as Hulsizer scored Outman and Brito with a double in the sixth for a 12-3 lead.

De Geus lasted six innings, giving up only three runs — all solo homers, two to D’Shawn Knowles and one from Kevin Maitain. Each homered once in the third.

Ogden’s final run of the game came in typical fashion for a game against Orem when Maitan committed a throwing error to score Hulsizer. Orem totaled five errors on the night. The Owlz (19-45, 7-19) have 123 team errors in 64 games.

Yeison Cespedes and Gregorio Sequera took the game into the ninth for Ogden pitchers before Evy Ruibal recorded the final out. John Swanda took the loss, giving up two runs in 2/3 of an inning as Orem’s starter.

Outman totaled three hits to lead Ogden and Hulsizer had three RBIs. The Raptors totaled 10 hits and 10 walks at the plate.

The two teams continue the series Saturday.
