MLS Dynamo Real Salt Lake Soccer 053018

Real Salt Lake players celebrate a goal by midfielder Luis Silva, second from left, against the Houston Dynamo during an MLS soccer match in Sandy, Utah, Wednesday, May 30, 2018.

After giving up its lead on an unchallenged header, Real Salt Lake salvaged a victory and three points by defeating the Houston Dynamo 2-1 on Wednesday at Rio Tinto Stadium.

It’s the first time this season RSL has posted consecutive wins.

A Luis Silva score in the 34th minute put RSL (6-6-1, 19 points) ahead 1-0, which held until deep into the second half.

In the 75th minute, Houston’s Romell Quioto lifted a perfect volley into the box, where it met the head of a slicing Alberth Ellis, who headed the ball into the net unchecked to knot it at 1-1.

But RSL didn’t take long to answer.

After a shot from a hustling Joao Plata glanced off the side of Houston’s keeper in the 82nd minute, Sebastian Saucedo — who assisted Silva’s first-half goal — sent the ensuing corner through the box.

Damir Kreilach smoothly chested the ball forward, where a scrambling Kyle Beckerman nailed a sharp-angle, left-footed kick inside the far post to give RSL the lead.

Houston (5-4-3, 18 points) got one last look in the 86th when former RSL forward Luis Gil headed a shot toward an open net that was secured by a diving Nick Rimando.

RSL is back in action Saturday by hosting Seattle (2-6-2, 8 points), a team it beat 1-0 last week on the road.
