Weber State volleyball has added a recent head coach to its coaching staff, hiring Idaho State’s Sammi Stuart as an assistant coach, the school announced Friday.

Stuart resigned May 12 as Idaho State’s head volleyball coach after three seasons at the helm. She replaces Kayla Morgan, a seven-year WSU assistant who was recently named an assistant athletic director at the school, on Jeremiah Larsen’s bench. Larsen is entering his eighth season as WSU head coach.

“Sammi is a huge asset to our volleyball program. Sammi is an elite coach and person and will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our gym,” Larsen said in a news release. “I am excited for the opportunity to work with her as we continue to build a volleyball program that will compete consistently at the national level.”

Stuart, a native of Randolph, Utah, and an alum of Rich High School, played college basketball at Utah State from 2003-05.

She got her volleyball coaching start as director of operations at BYU from 2006-08. From there, Arizona State hired Stuart as an assistant coach. From 2008-14, she was part of a staff that built the ASU program into three straight NCAA Tournament bids in her final three seasons there.

Stuart then joined the coaching staff at Utah State from 2015-18 before her hire in 2019 as Idaho State’s head coach.

“I’m excited to have the chance to work with Coach Larsen,” Stuart said in a news release. “He’s been a good friend of mine for quite some time. The opportunity to work with him and his program will be great for me. I’m looking forward to improving my volleyball IQ with him.”

Weber State has won two consecutive Big Sky regular-season championships with a combined conference record of 28-4 between the spring and fall 2021 seasons. The Wildcats beat Bowling Green in April 2021 for the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament win.
