Weber State football remained ranked No. 5 for the third straight week with the release of the latest STATS FCS Top 25 on Monday.

The Wildcats are 7-1 after defeating Montana last week.

The top six are unchanged, essentially, from last week, with the caveat that WSU and Holy Cross were tied for fifth last week but no longer are. South Dakota State remains No. 1, getting 53 of 54 first-place votes, with Sacramento State at No. 2 grabbing the other first-place vote.

Montana State is No. 3, North Dakota State is No. 4, Weber remains at No. 5, and Holy Cross is ranked No. 6. The rest of the teams in the top 10: Incarnate Word, William & Mary, Jackson State and Samford.

Idaho moved up to No. 15 after losing late to Sacramento State and Montana fell to No. 16.

Weber State hosts No. 2 Sacramento State at 1 p.m. Saturday.

WSU SOCCER TAKES HONORS

Weber State soccer sophomore Morgan Furmaniak won co-offensive MVP and shared the golden boot as the Big Sky Conference revealed individual award winners and all-conference teams for the women’s soccer season.

Furmaniak scored five goals this season to tie Eastern Washington’s Maddie Morgan (four goals, two assists) in points.

Sacramento State’s Audrey Goodwill was named defensive MVP and Idaho’s Kira Witte is the goalkeeper of the year. Northern Arizona’s Alan Berrios won coach of the year honors.

Furmaniak and WSU junior midfielder Yira Yoggerst were named to the all-conference first team, with Furmaniak one of two unanimous selections.

Senior defender Rachel Twede and sophomore midfielder Brynlee Meyerhoffer were named to the second team, and senior goalkeeper Mekell Moss received an honorable mention.

Weber State went 4-4 in Big Sky play to grab the No. 5 seed in this week’s conference tournament held in Greeley, Colorado. The Wildcats play No. 4 Sacramento State in the tournament quarterfinals at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The winner advances to play No. 1 Northern Arizona at 2 p.m. Friday; WSU was the only team to defeat NAU in conference play this season.

All games of the tournament will stream on ESPN+.
