Weber State cheerleading team wins 2023 Grand National Championship

Weber State's large coed team poses after winning the NCA grand national championship Saturday, April 8, in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The Weber State Sprit Squad made history and added another national title at the 2023 NCA/NDA Collegiate Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The Wildcat cheer team won the Grand National Championship in the Large Coed 1A Division on Friday. Weber State had the best score of any school from any division in the competition.

The win is the sixth-straight national title for Weber State and the seventh overall. This year, Weber State moved up a division to Division IA, the highest division in the country. Weber State finished ahead of Louisville, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and Clemson in the top five to win the Division IA title.

On Saturday, Weber State claimed the Grand National title for the second time in program history, winning in a competition between each division’s national champion. The Wildcats totaled a score of 98.0833 in the final competition to seal the win.

WSU cheer claimed a national title in the partner stunt event with Elsa Hassett and Michael Androsov taking first place. Weber State also had partners finished third through sixth in the competition to take five of the top six spots.

Weber State was second in the small coed team competition and finished third in the group stunt competition.

On the dance side, the Wildcats were third in the jazz Division I competition with a total of 95.1143. The ‘Cats were also third in hip hop with 93.6571.

The Wildcat cheer team is coached by Summer Willis, who has led Weber State to national titles in 2009, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023.

The dance team is coached by Erica Jordan.
