Weber State athletics finished third in the 2018 Big Sky President’s Cup standings, the conference announced this week.
Eastern Washington University won the cup for the 2017-18 athletic season. The cup is decided by points from both athletics prowess (championships and standings) and by academics (team GPAs and Academic Progress Rates).
Eastern Washington led all schools with an overall GPA of 3.42 as the only school to have every team record a 3.0 or better.
The Weber State women’s golf team recorded the highest overall team GPA in the Big Sky Conference at 3.72.
Northern Colorado finished second overall in cup standings.
On the athletics side, Northern Arizona — powered by stellar track and cross country programs — was first. Weber State was second athletically, followed by Sacramento State.
On the academic side, Montana State and Northern Colorado followed EWU in the top three.
Eastern Washington’s cup win gives it four, tying Weber State for total wins since the award began in 2003.
The conference says all 11 full-member schools recorded an average athletics GPA of 3.0.
“We have an extraordinary group of student-athletes at our institutions who understand that succeeding in the classroom is just as important as winning in their sport,” Big Sky commissioner Andrea Williams said in a statement.
