As kickoff approaches, Weber State football has announced five team captains for the 2018 season.
Senior running back Treshawn Garrett, senior fullback Brady May, senior offensive lineman Iosua Opeta, senior linebacker LeGrand Toia and junior defensive end Jonah Williams will captain the Wildcats this season.
Garrett earned third-team All-Big Sky honors last season and is 11th in Weber State history with 1,791 career rushing yards.
May, an All-American for his special teams play last season, had two rushing touchdowns and 10 receptions for 108 yards last season.
Opeta is another first-team All-American from last season, starting all 14 games on the offensive line.
Toia is the only player in the group who returns as a team captain. Another All-American, he led the Wildcats with 79 tackles and was second on the team in sacks last year.
Williams played in all 14 games last season, totaling 37 tackles and 5.5 sacks while recovering a blocked punt for a touchdown. He earned All-Big Sky honors as a sophomore.
As fall camp ends and preparation for Utah begins, Weber State had no decision to announce for the quarterback battle after practice Thursday — which appears to be down to sophomore Jake Constantine and redshirt freshman Kaden Jenks — or depth chart information.
The Wildcats open the season Thursday, Aug. 30, against the Utes. The team is ranked No. 8 in FCS preseason polls and will play its home opener on Sept. 15 against South Dakota.
