Five Weber State track and field athletes have qualified to keep competing this season at the NCAA West regional meet.

Abbi Brecht, Jordan Cross, Anthony Gregory, Summer Harper and Kate Sorensen qualified for the West meet, which is May 24-26 at Sacramento State.

Athletes qualify for the regionals by posting a top-48 time in their event in the region. The top 12 will advance to the NCAA Track and Field Championships on June 6-9 at the University of Oregon.

Cross, an Ogden native and Ogden High graduate, has the 38th-best steeplechase time in the region at 8:56.08. He competes May 25 at 9:20 p.m.

Gregory, a Roy High alumnus, has the 33rd-best high jump mark in the region at 6 feet, 11 inches. He competes May 26 at 5 p.m.

Brecht has the group’s highest regional ranking with a women’s high jump mark of 5 feet, 9.75 inches, which is 28th in the West. Harper runs the steeplechase and Sorenson runs the 400-meter hurdles.

Last year, Weber State sent 13 athletes (eight women, five men) to compete in 14 events at the 2017 West regional meet in Texas, with women’s steeplechase runner Ellie Child advancing to the national meet.
