For the first time since 2012, there's a new team in the Pioneer League who will visit Lindquist Field: the Rocky Mountain Vibes.
Yes, the Vibes — a name that's about the outdoors and the feeling you get when living in Colorado, apparently.
The Vibes are formerly the Helena Brewers. The city of Colorado Springs traded a triple-A team (which moved to San Antonio, Texas) for a rookie-league team in the Vibes, while Helena, Montana — which has hosted a Pioneer League team in 39 of the last 41 seasons — is now without a team.
The Vibes do have a walking, sunglasses-clad s'more mascot named Toasty to greet fans in Colorado Springs that's ... actually kind of awesome? The new team is scheduled to play at Lindquist Field for the first time on July 4.
Because of this move, division alignments have shifted. The Idaho Falls Chukars move to the North Division with the Missoula Osprey, Billings Mustangs and Great Falls Voyagers. The South Division consists of the Raptors, Vibes, Orem Owlz and Grand Junction Rockies.
Speaking of name changes, Missoula will end a 20-year run as the Osprey after this season; the team plans to change names for 2020.
