Gene Thomas Swaner passed away peacefully on August 24, 2021, in Ogden, Utah.
Gene was born March 25, 1929 to Herbert Alfred and Annie Fern Swaner in Ogden, Utah. He attended Lewis Elementary school and graduated from Ogden High School in 1947. He also attended Weber State College.
At the age of 14 he started work at Weber Market as a stock boy and cashier. After graduation he worked at Jackson Sheet Metal.
Between 1949 and 1951, he served an LDS Mission to Northern California and the Samoan Islands. Upon returning home, he married LaDon Swenson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 7, 1951.
Gene started working at Hill Air Force Base in 1951, as an aircraft sheet metal worker, later as an Industrial Engineer as well as a contracting officer in the landing gear section of procurement for 20 years. He retired from HAFB in March 1984.
For the past 35 years, he and his wife LaDon have enjoyed making crafts and participating in numerous craft shows.
Gene has served many church callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including Ward Athletic Director, Elders Quorum President, High Priest Counselor, Membership Clerk, Home Teacher and assisting his wife LaDon in the Family History Program.
Gene is survived by his wife LaDon, children; Steven (Joyce) Swaner of Fremont, Utah; Karla (Devin)Nelson of Roy, Utah; Susan Swift of Clearfield, Utah; Don Swaner of Fremont, Utah; Scott Swaner of North Ogden, Utah, one sister Annette (Dave) Manning of Bountiful, Utah; 19 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by three grandchildren, brother John (Jack) Swaner, and a sister Fern (Duke) Blasko.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing held from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at Leavitt’s Mortuary 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah.
Interment at Leavitt’s Aultorest Memorial Park.
