Merl was born October 20, 1927, in Syracuse, Utah, to Thomas James Thurgood and Gerda Modine Thurgood. He was delivered by aunt, Kate Stoker, midwife. He has lived in Syracuse his entire life. The home he was raised in is still standing and still being lived in. That home was built in 1902.

I was a child in the 40's, a teenager in the 50's, a young mom in the 60's, mother of teenagers in the 70's, grandmother in the 80's, traveled the country in the 90's, traveled the world in the 2000's, did service in the 2010's, downsized in the 20 teens and now I am an octogenarian.
