Mel celebrated her 90th birthday at a family dinner gathering.

She was born April 16, 1929, in Springville, Utah and grew up on a farm, graduating from Springville High School in 1947, and later graduated from the LDS School of Nursing, University of Utah, and did post graduate studies. She was a public health nurse for the State of Utah and Weber County.

Her children are: Diane (Dan) Glover, Paul (Karen) Packard, Tom Packard, Marilyn (Jon) Beckstead, Karen (Joe) Alexander, and infant son Jimmy Packard, deceased. She has 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

She enjoys family, friends, the outdoors, nature, animals, birds, traveling, sewing, taking care of her home and yard, and especially music. She played the organ in her ward for many years.
