Happy 80th Birthday!: Alma Frank Harris
Alma Frank Harris, of North Ogden, is turning 80 years old. He was born in Young Ward (Cache Valley) on June 9, 1939, a son of Frank and Emma Reynolds Harris.
He graduated from South Cache High School in 1957, where he was student body president. He then graduated from Utah State University, where he was in ROTC. Later he served in the United States Army, and was stationed in France. His wife, Gayle, and their two children were able to join him, and they lived in the French village of Vitry-le-Francois. He later reached the rank of Captain in the Army Reserves.
After returning from France, he earned a Master’s Degree from USU, followed by a PhD from Purdue University. Al then accepted a job at Weber State University in the School of Business, where he later became Department Chair, and Dean of the School of Business. He was also chosen as Professor of the Year.
Al married the former Gayle Hansen in the Logan LDS Temple on May 4, 1962. They are the parents of eight children, 37 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
He served an LDS mission in the Eastern States when he was young, and a mission with Gayle in Boston from 2009-10. He also served as an Elders Quorum President, Bishop, and as a Stake President. He is currently a Cub Scout assistant den leader (Gayle is the den leader!). He hopes to move up to den leader eventually.
Al has always enjoyed music, playing the piano and guitar. He has bought many violins, guitars, banjos, and flutes for his grandchildren, introducing them to music, and playing with some of them in a fiddling group. Almost every family gathering includes music. He also enjoys working on the farm they have in Cache Valley.
He celebrated at a dinner with his extended family.
