Kay Irving Waite

FARR WEST – Kay Irving Waite passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veteran’s Home.

He was born April 17, 1919 in Hyde Park, Utah to George and Bertha Topping Waite.

On October 24, 1947, Kay married Connie LeBaron in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he served as the Finance Clerk for the Clearfield 3rd Ward for nearly 20 years. Kay and Connie served a Family History LDS mission in Salt Lake City. They also served as ordinance workers in the Ogden LDS Temple.

During World War II, he served in the US Army Air Corps. He retired from HAFB in 1976 with 34 years of government service.

His interests included traveling, reading and gardening. However, his greatest passion was his family where he proudly defended his title as family checkers champion and delighted his grandchildren and great-grandchildren by reciting the alphabet backwards.

He is survived by his wife; their daughters; Linda (Blair) Nelson, West Valley; Ruth (John) Egbert, Clearfield; Julie (Willy) Elliott, Byers, CO; Lani (Layne) Cook, Roy; 27 grandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; brother, Willis, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Rulon, and sisters-in-law, Oralie and Beverly.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home and Bristol Hospice for their loving care.

The family will meet with friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Westwood Ward Chapel, 2123 North 2000 West, Farr West, with a visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Interment, Clearfield Cemetery.
