LIZ

November 26, 1946 ~ May 19, 2014

What you leave behind is not what is engraved in a stone monument, but what is woven into the life’s of other.

Liz passed away peacefully at home after a valiant battle with ALS on May 19, 2014. Liz was born on November 26, 1946 in Gayton, England to Ted and Irene Jones.

Liz grew up in Litichborough, a small village in the Northhamptonshire countryside. After graduating from high school, Liz began her apprenticeship as a hair dresser, living in London and Scotland. Her fondest memories was when she lived in London during the 60’s had her own hair salon, and managed a band. After moving to Wales she had her own restaurant right next to a pub.

On October 1, 1973 she married Robert Collins and were later divorced. Liz returned home to help her father and brother in the nursery plant business.

One night while on a pub crawl in May of 1980 with her friend, she met Sgt. Felice ‘Rocky Graziano U.S.A.F at the Bear pub in Banbury, England on one of the few nights that the G.I.’s were not barred. She married SSgt. Rocky Graziano on May 22, 1982 and they began their almost 32 years of marriage together, being stationed in Spain with side trips to France and Portugal, and to both their dismay Las Vegas, NV and finally to Utah.

Liz tried her hand at various trades being a telemarketer, restaurant cook, worked at the Salvation Army, until finally settling on being an antique dealer until she retired. Liz loved to travel and experience the various cultures. At home she became well known for her knitting ability and fine sweaters. She loved to garden and tended her English garden. Liz loved camping at Beaver Creek and made lasting friendships as she did where ever she went, because she was always ready to help her friends as well as strangers. She delighted in teaching the heathens the Kings English and set upon the daunting task of improving their bland and boring meals they ate. An invite to her formal sit down meals was a gastronomical delight with fine English traditional fare and good company. Liz’s taste and ability to decorate were impeccable and she had a home filled with antiques and brass/silverware creating a taste of Britain.

She is survived by her husband Felice Rocky Graziano.

She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Ted Jones; her mother, Irene Jones; brother, Jim Jones; sister, Anne George.

A Wake will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Eccles Community Art Center, 2580 Jefferson Ave. Ogden, UT from 5 – 9 p.m.

Skip

March 29, 1968 ~ May 14, 2014

HOOPER – On Wednesday May 14, 2014 our dear husband, father, uncle, brother, and friend Jeffery (Skip) Deen Nicholas passed unexpectedly from this earthly life and went on to his heavenly home. He was born in Ogden on March 29, 1968 to Julia Searle (deceased) and Heber Kay Nicholas.

From an early age Jeff (Skip) had a love for the outdoors. Growing up along the Wasatch Front allowed him plenty of opportunities to drop a fishing line in the water, or sling his rifle on his back and head for the hills. He absolutely loved to be outdoors. He tried every hobby to the extreme. His first love was fishing and hunting and as a teenager his father, brothers, cousins, and uncles spent countless hours and days together enjoying every minute. He tried every form of fishing, such as bait, fly (and learned to tie those flies), and trolling behind a boat. Hunting was the same. He loved fowl and big game hunting and loved to see his sons and his daughter enjoy this pastime too.

He met the love of his life Molly Lorenzen at the age of 18. They married on June 20, 1991. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on May 18, 2007. The love they shared was admired by everyone around them and they cherished every minute they were together. This amazing love brought them three beautiful children, Jason Jeffery, 18, currently serving in the El Salvador, San Salvador East Mission, Brendan David, 16, and Kathryn Jo (Katie), 12. This sweet little family was the center of Skip’s world. Everyone knew that nothing mattered more to him than Molly and the kids.

Growing up and working alongside his father, he became a craftsman at heart; Jeff knew he wanted to work with his hands. He ventured down a few different career paths then eventually worked with several different commercial construction companies until he found his home in 1997 with Jacobsen Construction as a superintendent, where he has spent the last 17 years working on some of the most iconic structures in the state-including The Regent at City Creek, The Grand America and the LDS Conference Center-as well as the LDS Temple in Texas and at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Most recently he was working on a collection of office buildings at Thanksgiving Park in Utah County-but Jeff constructed much more than walls and floors. Jeff built lasting friendships with clients he considered family while building strong bonds of trust and camaraderie with his team. In the last decade of his career, that was what was really important to Jeff: Building people whenever he could.

Jeff built testimonies as well, every time he shared the story of his mighty change of heart-the one that brought him and his family back into the LDS Church in 2005. He spoke at many youth firesides about his journey-a broken, hurting man who went from living a life rejecting Jesus Christ to living a life embracing Him-and how that transformation prompted him to share his love for the Gospel. At church Jeff served faithfully as a Scoutmaster, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, Elders Quorum President and, most recently, Second Counselor in the Bishopric of the Lakeview Ward, Hooper Stake. At work, Jeff’s office was wallpapered with pictures of temples and quotes from General Authorities; his scriptures, worn and weathered, lay open on his desk almost all the time. And on his beloved Harley was his most loved Book of Mormon hero: Captain Moroni, clad in the Armor of God and waving the Title of Liberty. He loved the Temple Riders and his trademark was taking pictures of his Harley in front of every Temple he could.

Jeff was the third born child to Heber Kay Nicholas and Julia Searle. He loved his parents dearly. He had four siblings, Randy Nicholas, Idaho; Shamra Nicholas (deceased); Jenafer Sonnenburg, Texas; H. Glenn Nicholas (deceased). His parents later divorced. His father then married his step mother Ruth and he gained some incredible siblings: Melissa (Mark) Powers, Morgan UT; Eric (Amy) Nicholas, Las Vegas, NV; Ryan Nicholas, Salt Lake City; along with his half siblings, Natalie (Aureliano) Montes, Los Banos, CA; and Jacob Nicholas, Morgan, UT; and a special sister-in-law, Christen (Nicholas) Larsen, Syracuse, UT.

Jeff was preceded in death by his grandparents, Oleen Nicholas, Richard Michael and Clarence and Fern Searle; mother, Julia Searle Hope; sister, Shamra Nicholas; brother, H. Glenn Nicholas; brother, Alex Nicholas; and niece, Savannah Sonnenburg.

Jeff is survived by his sweetheart, Molly Nicholas; his two amazing sons, Jason and Brendan; and his pumpkin, Katie; his previously mentioned siblings as well as the Lorenzen and Jacoway families and many wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jeff would not want us to grieve for our loss but continue his missionary work.

We all love you so much. Until we meet again.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 23, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Lakeview Ward Chapel, 5375 South 5900 West, Hooper. Friends may visit family on Thursday, May 22, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the Lakeview Ward Chapel.

March 20, 1924 ~ May 15, 2014

Joyce Holmes Johnson passed away peacefully in her sleep on a beautiful spring morning, May 15, 2014, while her oldest daughter was singing to her softly.

Joyce was born the first day of spring March 20, 1924 in Wilson, UT to Gideon Martin Holmes and Lenora Hunter. Raised on a farm north of Brigham City in the small community of Harper Ward, she learned the value of honest hard work and lived by the motto, We eat what we can, and what we cant, we can.

Not only did she work hard on the farm, she also excelled at school. She was a Box Elder HS Bee-ette, a member of the water ballet team, and the 1942 class valedictorian. The day after graduation, she took the civil service exam, was hired on the spot, and went to work two days later at Defense Depot of Ogden. Because of her exceptional typing, shorthand and secretarial skills, she was asked to relocate to an air base in Pasco, WA in support of the WWII effort. While there, she met Charles Henry Johnson, whom she married on April 6, 1943. They later were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple.

She worked as an executive secretary at Weber State College and at Hill AFB. She was very proud of her accomplishments and said it was her job to make her bosses look good. She was selfless and always thinking of others.

Joyces family was the center of her life, but her unbounded love, generosity and warmth extended well beyond. One of her greatest joys was being surrounded by children – – singing lullabies, reading books and playing games. She was known for her fabulous Grandma Johnson dinners and personalized Easter egg hunts, creating fond and lasting memories and tight family bonds. The walls of her modest home seemed to expand to welcome everyone and she made sure all felt included.

She was a faithful lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her children were taught values through her example: to respect others and show kindness to all, to live honestly, have faith and trust in God, and to prize learning. As a longtime member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, she wrote many family histories of pioneer ancestors. She served as a docent for many years at the Weber County Pioneer Museum.

She is honored by her children, Carol and Dennis Barbian, Darrell and Cheryle Johnson, Ken Johnson and Marie Kaufman, Charlene Durham, Lynette and Paul Fawson, Deanna and Pete Schroeder, Janeil and Doug Pluim, Marilyn and Tracy Johnson-Faulkner. Her legacy includes 29 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, one son, and one grandson.

Thanks to the family and friends who have given her joy throughout her life, and caregivers who eased her final years: the staffs of AFI Hospice, Legacy House and Lotus Park Assisted Living Centers.

A viewing will be held Friday, May 23, 2014 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. in Ogden. The funeral will be held Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the LDS Church, 3628 S. 2700 W., West Haven, with a viewing from 11:40 – 12:40 prior to services. Interment at the West Weber Cemetery, 4592 W. 1000 N.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association at ALZ.ORG or a charity of your choice.

November 4, 1937 ~ May 18, 2014

CLINTON – Michael Griffin Neumeyer passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, May 18, 2014. He was born in Salt Lake City on November 4, 1937, to Josephine Griffin and Frederick Earl Neumeyer. Mike graduated from Wasatch Academy in 1956, he later enjoyed attending reunions.

From 1956 to 1960, during the cold war, he served in the Navy assigned to command air pac on the air craft carrier the U.S.S. Yorktown on various secret assignments; including at sea in the Western Pacific and San Diego when the ship docked. He was assigned to the communication air pac offices in a secret capacity. Upon discharge of the Navy he worked for the office of the Bureau of Land Management. He joined the Ogden City Police Department in 1961 and was assigned to Central Services which involved evidence and officer’s equipment and supplies meanwhile he also worked for Grand Central Stores.

Mike married the lovely Elaine Donaldson on August 30, 1963, the family was sealed in the LDS Logan Temple on July 1, 1966. The two later divorced. While growing and raising their family of three girls and three boys, he attended Weber State College and received his Bachelors in Social Science in 1972. Leaving the Ogden Police Dept., the family moved to Roosevelt where Michael served as Chief of police for one year. After the short term in Roosevelt he moved back to Northern Utah and worked for Clearfield City Police Dept. for two years as a Forensic Specialist. After a lengthy assignment he joined the Roy City Police Department briefly.

A short time later, in 1978 he started as a police officer for the SLC Veterans Affairs Hospital and Campus. While working there, he met his partner in crime Denise S. Koch, a respiratory therapist, of Blue Springs, Missouri. The two married on December 16, 1980 and were blessed with two daughters. After working ten years for the VA, Mike spent another seven years with Defense Depot Ogden as a police officer, finally retiring in 1995. For the next 15 years he worked as security at Harmon’s Grocery and as a driver for Railcrew Express. He enjoyed sharing his stories with the rail crew workers. He spent the last few years at home coping with chronic foot pain.

Through the years he came in contact with his children’s friends, health care personnel, and attained many friends; all agree that he was the nicest, most giving and positive person who had a great outlook on life. He was brilliantly funny which kept him young and no one would ever guess his real age.

His hobbies were fishing, hiking, shooting, road trips, photography, watching the history and golf channels, prospecting with his cousin Jeff, and I think we can call eating, a hobby for his sake. Golfing was more than a hobby his eyes would light up when he heard the word ‘golf’ or ‘it’s a nice day outside’. He might not have been able to finish all nine holes but he was fine going along for the ride and enjoying the game.

He was a spiritual man, was baptized as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings in the church. He shared the gospel with his family and friends often, Hymns were his favorite thing to sing.

Surviving are his wife Denise of 33 years, children Colleen (Lester) Jorgensen, (Ferrin, UT); Holly (Mark) Green, (N. Dakota); Michelle Russell, (Clinton, UT); Michael Shane (Cami), (Mesa, AZ); Dustin (Emily), (Ogden, UT); Ryan (Alaina), (N .Ogden, UT); Amanda (David) Harrell, (S. December 29, 1925 ~ May 9, 2014

Reed Harris Walker, age 88, passed away peacefully in Brigham City Utah, Friday May 9, 2014. He was born December 29, 1925, to James H. and Mary Elizabeth Ann (Fannye) Harris Walker of Raymond, Alberta, Canada.

Reed is survived by his brother, Ralph Walker of Ontario Canada; seven children, Rodney (Cori) Walker, MeriLynn (John) Keyes, Doug (Michelle) Walker, Jayson (Mary) Walker, Patti (Cory) Benion, Kerry (Jenny) Walker, Shauna (Calvin) Timothy; 31 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren with two on the way, and dozens of beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James H. Walker and Mary Elizabeth Ann (Fannye) Harris Walker; seven brothers; and three sisters, J. Harris (Beth) Walker, Robert H. (Barbara) Walker, Fay H. (Elsie) Walker, Glen H. (Willa Rae) Walker, Floyd Walker, Lloyd Walker, Richard Walker, Beth W. (Earle) Zemp, Jane W. (Nolan) McMullin, Mary W. (Paul) Fairbanks.

He was one of the younger children of 12. As a young man he enjoyed many activities that include playing in the school band and basketball. He was surrounded by many friends and family members who loved him. He worked on his father’s farm from a young age until he finished his high school education. He then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Houston Texas. In 1954, following a brief service in the Canadian Army, he began work on his own farm in Moses Lake, Washington.

On December 19, 1955, Reed was sealed to his loving eternal companion Marilyn Call Walker, in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As newlyweds, they resided for a short period, in Moses Lake, when they moved to Utah for the purpose of Reed’s attendance at Utah State University. On the fourth day of June, 1960, Reed was granted a Bachelor’s in Science diploma followed by an Elementary School Certificate, the second day of September of the same year.

Reed devoted 27 years to being a fourth and fifth grade elementary school teacher, in Brigham City. To this day, comments are made regarding his devotion and excellence as an educator, Your dad was one of the best teachers I ever had. He was generous, caring, and treated us like we were one of his own children.

After retirement, Reed and Marilyn traveled to various locations throughout the world. One location was Africa where they served two LDS missions. Their first mission was in Zimbabwe, Africa. Within 15 months of coming home they returned to Africa once again to serve in the Kenya mission. They were one of the first sets of missionaries to serve in that area.

He was a pillar of the community. Reed and family maintained and built a movie theater business started by Vosco Call, the grandfather of his deceased wife. What began as a single movie house business has grown to be what is recognized as the Walker Cinemas, an icon of the community.

Reed’s generosity and devotion was apparent in all aspects of his life. However, his love and devotion to the Lord and family was paramount. He served in many church callings throughout his lifetime. He was a loving husband, father, and grand-father. His example was stellar. He will be missed by all who have come to know him but not forgotten.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 16, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Perry Stake Center 685 West 2550 South. May 1, 2014 ~ May 10, 2014

On May 1, 2014 at exactly 1:00 p.m. Niko came into this world and quickly stole the hearts of all who knew him. He was a bright, sweet perfect little spirit who touched so many lives.

On May 10, Niko was taken to the ER for swelling and discoloration on his lower body; we watched helplessly as a horrible bacteria quickly spread over his tiny body. He was life-flighted to Primary Children’s Hospital where the Drs., Nurses, and staff worked tirelessly to save him. After more than twelve hours we realized this fight was too much for our tiny angel and began to pray he had the strength to hold on until his Daddy could make it home from Illinois where he serves in the US Navy.

Niko was strong: he endured hours of surgery, over four units of blood and plasma, and countless medicines and machines to give him every possible chance. He coded four times throughout the day but fought his way back until his parents could both be with him. His parents made the most difficult and selfless choice to let Niko pass peacefully.

On May 10, 2014 Nikolai Kelvin Hansen returned to heaven as his Mommy and Daddy held him gently in their arms.

Niko is survived by his parents, Cory L. Hansen and Mikenzee Jai Hansen (Carter); his grandparents, Jim and Mindi Hansen, Kelvin Carter and Cheri Bambrough. Niko also leaves behind many great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Our family would like to express our gratitude to the amazing staff at Primary Children’s PICU.

A Memorial Fund has been set-up in Nikos name to help his young parents with his final expenses. Donations can be made at any America First Credit Union to the Nikolai Kelvin Hansen Memorial Fund. If you are unable to donate we ask that you consider donating blood or plasma in Nikos name.

A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate our little angel on Saturday, May 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836 36th Street Ogden, Utah. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Out of respect for the parents we kindly ask that no children attend the services.

Interment and Graveside services will be held at Ogden City Cemetery.

As a child, he was a little rascal; as an adult, Randy was always willing to serve others. He greatly loved his grandmother and selflessly devoted himself to caring for her in her later years. He currently was caring for his mother with steady patience and vigilant attention. He held his extended family together by carrying on many holiday traditions with his delicious cooking. He utilized the same diligence and passion for feeding people excellent food in his latest position as the Director of Dining Services at Country Pines Retirement Community in Clinton. He loved to teach his culinary skills to his children, nieces, those who he employed, and any others who sought knowledge and expertise from him. At the end of Thanksgiving dinner, he never once failed to say, It takes two days to prepare and 15 minutes to eat.

He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and son. He not only left a huge hole in his family, but also in his ward family and community.

Randy is survived by his loving wife, Eddie; son, Christopher Randall Thorsted; daughters, Kathryn Anne (Richard) May, Dannelle (Ryan) Holding, and Erika (Rodney) Biggs; three grandchildren; mother, Alice Thorsted Cawley; sisters, Laney Lamie, Alison (Jerry) Wilhelmi; and his cherished nieces, Dani, Emily, and Lauren.

May 31, 1929 ~ May 13, 2014

Together Again

A week ago today our mother wondered if she was ready to meet the Savior. Indeed she was. On a glorious spring day, Tuesday, May 13, 2014 an elect lady, Elaine Rampton Cullimore, 84, passed from this life with causes relating to pulmonary lung failure. We as a family are comforted to know that she now is in the loving presence of her Heavenly Father, and in the outstretched arms of her husband, Jay. We know in our hearts that she is having delightful reunions with her ancestors that she dearly loved.

Elaine was born in Layton, on May 31, 1929, to Doyle Henry Rampton, and Ruth Ellen Adams Rampton. Our mother was born in that significant time of strife and sacrifice during the years of the Great Depression. She learned and mastered many skills, such as cleaning, sewing and cooking. It was probably during these sparse times our mother developed several small passions. She was persnickety about caring for her home and possessions; she loved dessert, especially anything with frosting. Lastly, she had fun buying pretty clothes and shoes. Clifton’s dress shop, her favorite place to shop, helped us accommodate at least one of her vices with her frequent shopping sprees.

Elaine attended Davis County Schools graduating in 1947, from Davis High School. Due to the building of the Navy Base, her family moved off of their farm and relocated in Garland. Mother elected to stay where she was familiar and had the unique experience of living with her grandmother, Lettie Adams. This relationship led to a sincere and especially tightly formed bond between the two. Also, mother formed many friendships with high school girls that continued up to the very end of her life with monthly excursions for restaurant extravaganzas.

Mother married our beloved father on October 27, 1949. Their marriage was later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. Elaine supported him in all of his teaching and coaching adventures, although early on she really didn’t know one sport from another. Through their nearly sixty years of marriage mother became quite a connoisseur of the sports’ world cheering for both the Jazz and B.Y.U.

Ultimately, it was our mother’s greatest desire and wish for her children to have a father of which they would be continually proud. That is simply one of her greatest treasures she gave to us, her posterity.

Elaine served in many capacities in the church with her most familiar calling being in the Primary Presidencies. She later served as the Relief Society President of the Kaysville 9th ward. Mother loved her pioneer heritage and was an active member of The Daughters of Utah Pioneers until her health declined. She was actively involved in her Literary Fine Arts Book Club for over 40 years, along with serving as the President of the Ladies’ Reserve Officer’s Club. Mother considered it her honor to be fortunate to be able to serve as a hostess and guide for the Beehive House for twenty years. This was an experience she treasured all of her days. Mother and Dad served faithfully for six years as ordinance workers in both the Ogden and Bountiful Temples.

Mother had a great love for reading and studying the scriptures and her testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ was unparalleled. She left us, her children with a fervent testimony of the Savior, and a legacy to endure to the end with dignity. She is survived by her children, Ron Cullimore (Pat), Sheryl Ricketts (John), Julie Cullimore, and Joan E Linford (Bruce). Also surviving are her brothers, Richard Rampton, and Kent Rampton, and two sisters, Helen Reeder, and Maureen Topik. She leaves behind nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jay, and one great-grandson Lincoln Parke.

Our family wishes to thank South Davis Home Health and their priceless CAN, Ashley Soto. Our mother referred to her as My Ashley. We are also grateful for the sincere kindness, care, and love exhibited by Bountiful’s Orchard Cove.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, May 20, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville East Stake Center, 201 So. 600 E. Friends may visit family Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, our mother would be happy to have donations sent to the LDS Church Missionary Department.

April 2, 1922 ~ May 3, 2014

Ellen Adele Clayton Turner passed away at the age of 92 after a valiant battle with ‘old age.’

Adele was the great-great-great-granddaughter of William Clayton (composer of Come, Come Ye Saints) and Ruth Moon. Adele’s family are pretty sure she was singing and dancing to the music during her final days on earth.

Adele was the third child born to Brigham Moroni Clayton and Alice Peterson Clayton. She was a premature infant who wasn’t expected to live. Adele often laughed telling the family story about how tiny she was at birth, so tiny that she slept in a shoe box and was carried on a pillow. She found humor in the fact that she lived to be 92, longer than any of her doctors.

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, the family moved to Ogden, Utah in 1929 which included her parents and siblings Emmett, Dean, Carolyn (Gravis) and Joan McGregor. Most of the family believed they had been relocated to Mars.

Adele graduated from Ogden High in 1940 and completed an associate degree from Weber State College/University. She worked for the federal government for over 30 years including Army and Naval depots retiring from the IRS in 1993.

Adele married and divorced during the war and was blessed with her only child, John Francis Turner, Ogden, Utah. Adele and John were able to travel extensively and enjoyed their many trips to St George, California and onto Europe and beyond.

John provided love and care during Adele’s life and together they enjoyed many special moments as well as the beautiful sights of Mt. Ben Lomond from their front window.

Adele was a great dog lover providing a home for many orphaned dogs as well as loving music, dance, wine, and good book and of course looking at handsome men.

Adele is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Emmett and Dean; and sister, Carolyn (Chris) Gravis.

Adele leaves behind John; and her sister, Joan McGregor; sisters-in-law, Bonnie (Emmet) Clayton, and Jolene (Dean) Clayton and many loving nieces and nephews.

At Adele’s request there will be no funeral services. Following cremation, Adele’s remains will be scattered over her beloved Mt. Ogden.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers please assist with medical costs or donate to your favorite charity.

If you hear or see a little hummingbird buzz by, be assured Adele is singing you a little song.

December 16, 1953 ~ May 23, 2014

Geneva Cope Bentley returned to her Heavenly Home on May 23, 2014. Geneva prided herself in being a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Her friends and family were inspired by her integrity, work ethic, and kindness. Anyone who knew Geneva knew she cherished family above all else.

She was born in Hurricane, Utah to James and Carma Cope on December 16, 1953. Throughout her life, she was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she met her future husband, Steven Douglas Bentley. It was love at first sight for him, but she gave him a run for his money. Eventually, he caught up to her before leaving on his mission. On May 19, 1973, they married in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. With her persistence, they moved to Provo, Utah to attend BYU. By working as the supervisor of the BYU Records Office, she helped Steve to complete his five years of school.

Afterwards, they moved to Roosevelt, Utah, where Steve worked for the Uintah Basin Association of Governments; she worked for Zion’s Bank and Century 21. Steve later entered the United States Air Force, and Geneva became a full-time mom. She enjoyed sewing dresses for her girls and substituting for elementary school classes. Steve’s work took her and her children, Mel and Jani, all over Europe, the U.S., and Canada. A few years before his retirement from the USAF, she went back to school and earned her Bachelor’s in Education; she’d fulfilled a lifelong dream. She taught elementary school for ten years, but retired when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. She bravely and courageously handled those daunting challenges.

Geneva was fortunate to serve in a multitude of LDS church positions; some of which included: Ward Relief Society President (three times), Stake Relief Society Presidency, Ward YW President, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, Primary Teacher, and various other positions. While she enjoyed each of them immensely, she especially loved participating in the ward choir.

She is survived by her husband; her father, James Cope; her daughters, Melanie and Janice; her granddaughters, Ariya and Amelie; her sister, Cheryle Ann Cope; her brothers, James M. Cope (Merrily), A. Lynn Cope (Debbie), Edward L. Cope (Courtney), John C. Cope (Ann); and her nieces and nephews.

Everyone’s Favorite Teacher

Walt (Jr.) joyously entered the gates of Heaven early Monday morning, no longer bound by his tired, injured heart; welcomed by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

He was the fourth child of nineteen born to Walter Hue Lefler, Sr. and Lucille Lenor Weaver Lefler in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1962.

October 8, 1944 ~ May 12, 2014

Everyone’s Favorite Teacher

Walt (Jr.) joyously entered the gates of Heaven early Monday morning, no longer bound by his tired, injured heart; welcomed by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

He was the fourth child of nineteen born to Walter Hue Lefler, Sr. and Lucille Lenor Weaver Lefler in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1962. He soon enlisted in the US Air Force. He had so many great adventures as a missile photographer at Vandenberg AFB, CA and on the Marshal Islands in the Pacific. He was so proud to be a Vietnam Era Veteran. He was the consummate story teller when he shared all of his exploits.

Walt graduated from Briar Cliff College, Sioux City in 1972 to be a high school history teacher, but that was not to be. After surviving a heart attack at 33 years old, he went on to graduate from WSU, Ogden, UT to become an elementary teacher. Walt wore many hats during his lifetime: soldier, TV news photographer, TV news reporter, SAVON and 7-11 manager, and author; but teacher, father, grandfather and coach fit him best!

He taught fourth and fifth grades at Lewis Elementary, Horace Mann Elementary, and T.O. Smith Elementary from 1978 to 2007. He coached baseball, basketball, and chess clubs, taking hundreds of students to the State Chess Tournaments.

Walt is survived by the most wonderful family: his best friend, confidant, teaching partner, travel companion, mother-figure to his children, eternally loving wife, Carole Lynn Thoza Lefler; his children, Rick (Stacee), Jim (Jolene), Jeff (Amber) Lefler, Shelly (Joe) Miera, Jesse (Tiffany), and Nick (Emilie) Nelson; 11 grandchildren: Brittany Smith, Janese (Chris) Canto, Candice Lefler, Logan (Brittany) Lefler, Renzo, Jochelle, and A.J. Miera, Jordan, Morgan, and Jamie Lefler, Tristen Nelson; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Tom (Carol) Lefler, Joe (Candy) Lefler, Mick (Amy) Lefler, Patrick (Pam) Lefler, Tim (Julie) Lefler; sisters, Judy (Dick) Sams, Kaye (Larry) Bartscher, Janet (John) Schrunk, Patricia (Larry) Sitzman, Linda (Larry) Wingert, Beth (Fred) Karpuk, Geri (Charlie) Noltze, Rose (Scott) Williams, Theresa (Steve) Gray, and Susie (Pat) Galvin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ricky and Johnny; and sister, Marty Jo.

Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Alpine Church Riverdale, 5050 South 1275 West. We will also meet at 3 p.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road in South Ogden for a Veteran’s Ceremony.

Flowers may be sent to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., or directly to Alpine Church, or donations may be sent to the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home, 1102 North 1200 West, Ogden 84404.
