Randy Kent Stanger

Dec 24, 2017

“OPA”

October 15, 1952 ~ December 18, 2017

After a short hospital stay battling cancer Randy returned to his dream home in Huntsville, Utah, surrounded by family and friends to finish his stay on earth.

Born in Ogden, Utah, to Kenneth J. Stanger and Evona G. Bingham, Randy attended Ogden City schools graduating from Ben Lomond High. He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He earned his Eagle Scout as a young man and developed a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Hunting, fishing and Harley Davidson motorcycles were his passion. Fishing trips to Alaska, to stay with friends Pat and Stan were a treasured event.

Randy met Josepha (Joyce) Hoehn in 1988. Joyce shared Randy’s love of riding the Harley and they enjoyed 31 years together. Weekends were spent camping and fishing or just simply enjoying a campfire.

In 2011, Randy and Joyce adopted twin girls, Khaylee and Shaylee. Little in life could equal the joy the twins brought to Randy. They are the light of his life.

Randy’s parents owned Kent Shooters Supply an Ogden sporting goods store. At a very young age Randy worked after school and Saturdays, alongside his parents running the store eventually making it his full-time occupation. In 1972, Randy entered the Army, serving honorably with the 3rd Armored Division in Germany. Randy was proud of his service to his country and was a supporter of many Veterans groups.

In 1989, Randy, his nephew, Jeff Spencer and friend, John Card purchased the store from his parents. Many hunters and shooters learned the sport with Randy’s help.

Randy is survived by his mother, Evona Stanger; mother-in-law, Josepha (Joyce) Overdiek; wife, Joyce Stanger; sons, Nicholas Hoehn and Kevin Hoehn; daughters, Kahylee and Shaylee Stanger; sisters, Linda (Dennis) Spencer, Jan (Chris) Petersen; brother-in-law, Ronald Overdiek; sister-in-law, Jeanette (John) Bushman; and numerous nephews, nieces and friends that adored him. Randy will be missed by many and fondly remembered by more.

Our family is grateful to the staffs of South Davis Hospice, McKay Dee Hospital, U of U Hospital, and Huntsman Cancer Institute.
