Maralyn Horspool
July 30, 1925 ~ January 25, 2017
Maralyn Marie Stratford Horspool passed away at Peach Tree Place on January 25, 2017, at the age of 91. She was born on July 30, 1925, to Edwin and Lucille Stratford.
She grew up loving school and was a voracious reader, which continued throughout her life. She graduated from Ogden High School, where she made life-long friends and was active in planning several high school reunions. For years, a few of her high school friends got together monthly for lunch. She loved this group and attended the lunches until her health declined.
She held several jobs, including one at the railroad where she met her husband. She married Frank L. Horspool, Jr. on June 22, 1946. Frank and Jack Deamer, a good friend, ran an errand one day and came back with deposits on two new homes on North Eccles Avenue, which began a life-long friendship between the two families.
Maralyn worked at WSU for 24 years where she made many good friends. Upon retirement, she was given the Presidential Service Award. She was witty and was the superb host of numerous social gatherings. She was always dressed to the “hilt” and had 27 different pairs of Keds. She was a master shopper, designer of “killer” Christmas villages, and she spoiled her family rotten. She and Frank had three dachshund dogs: Misty, Heidi and Roxy, whom Maralyn dearly loved. She loved to scrapbook and hand made a beautiful dollhouse. She volunteered at McKay-Dee Hospital for several years and was President of the Aglaia Club.
She is survived by her son, Scott (Michelle); her grandchildren: Kurt, Laci (Kevin) Jones, Lindsay (Brady) Nicholls; and her sister, Patty (Terry-deceased) Price. She is also survived by her wonderful great-grandchildren: Dawson, Ashton and Addison Nicholls; Kolby and Kambree Gorder; and Logan, Peyton and Noah Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank and her brother, Val (Dixie) Stratford.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Peach Tree Place and Brighton Hospice for the kindness, and superb and incredibly loving care they gave to Maralyn.
As per Maralyn’s wishes, a graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Ben Lomond Cemetery in North Ogden.
