Gavin Paul Zimmerman

Aug 11, 2018

April 16, 1999 ~ July 23, 2018

A choice son was called and taken home to his Heavenly Father on Monday, July 23, 2018, to continue service in a higher mission. Elder Gavin Paul Zimmerman tragically passed away after a fall at Cape Solander in Kurnell National Park in Sydney, Australia, while viewing whales and taking pictures with other missionaries in his zone on their p-day.

Gavin was born in Ogden, UT, on April 16, 1999, to Raymond and Jeanette Zimmerman. He was the third child and second son. He has one brother, two sisters, two aunts, five uncles, and eight cousins. He lived in Roy and West Haven.

Gavin was a very adventurous, energetic and unique individual. He enjoyed hiking, camping, and hunting and also participated in sports such as soccer, baseball, skiing, snowboarding, wake-boarding and track, but his most favorite of all was being a member of the football team at Fremont High School. During his senior year Gavin also participated in an internship with the Weber County Sheriff’s Office in hopes of working in law enforcement in the future. He was very social and made many friends easily. His special loving, caring and happy personality drew people to him. He was very willing to serve, especially the Savior, Jesus Christ.

Gavin could hardly wait to go on his mission and hardly could contain his excitement. Elder Zimmerman was called to serve in the Australia, Sydney South Mission and reported to the MTC on August 16, 2017. He loved serving his mission and had served as district leader and was serving as a zone leader at the time of the accident. He had been out almost one year.

He was a ray of bright light in our family and to those around him. He touched more people than we would have ever known could be possible. Gavin was such an example to many and loved by many more as well. We all will miss him so greatly each day, but we look forward to seeing him again in heaven as an eternal family.

Gavin is preceded in death by his grandfather, Raymond E. Zimmerman. He is survived by his grandmother, Dyanne Zimmerman (Elkhart, IN); grandparents, Dell and Sandra Johnson; both of his parents, Raymond and Jeanette Zimmerman; along with his siblings: Darcey Breckelle Zimmerman and fianc^ Chris Shawver (Layton), Kendell Ray Zimmerman and Casandra Hope Zimmerman.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 13, 2018, at 12 p.m., at the Ogden West Stake Center, 2200 South 4300 West, Ogden, UT 84401. Family and Friends may pay their respects on Sunday, August 12, 2018, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Stake Center, and Monday, August 13, 2018, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., prior to the services.

Interment will be at the West Haven Cemetery.
