Dean Bingham (Bing) Childs

Dean Bingham (Bing) Childs was born December 2, 1937 the first of three sons born to Jonathan and Louise Morrison Childs. Dean lived with his grandparents Hazel and Ted Childs for much of his childhood. Dean was an Eagle Scout, a competitive archer, outdoorsman, fly fisher (beginning at age 14), fly tyer, snow skier, woodworker, innovator and dog lover (always had a least one).

After graduating from Ames High School in 1956 Dean went to work for Bourns Inc. where he worked for 45 years with one short break in service. He worked up to Vice President of Manufacturing for Sensors Controls Division overseeing plants in Ogden, Utah; Tijuana, Mexico; and Dunfermline, Scotland. In 1995, while still at Bourns, Dean started Wasatch Custom Angling Products which produced high end fly tying tools. When he sold this company in 2009 it had world wide sales of 10,000 tools a year. Dean was instrumental in the formation of OPFI (Olympic Peninsula Fishing Innovations) a non profit that produces equipment for fly fishing and fly tying for those who have lost the use of one arm. He was President until his Dementia got in the way.

In April 1959 Dean married Donna Glasgow. They were later divorced. Rick (May 1960) and Julie (November 1961) were born to that union. In December 1985 Dean married Diana Hunter Callahan in Ogden, Utah. Diana brought Nicki (age 14) and Traci (age 12) to that union.

Dean died October 12, 2021 due to the effects of Dementia. He leaves behind his wife of 35 years Diana; Rick (grand daughter Adriana); Julie (Toby) Hutton (granddaughters Ashley and Shelby); Nicki (granddaughter Kamryn); Traci (Clark) Rampton (grand children Jackson, William, Adelaide, Henry). He is also, survived by two brothers, four sisters, many nieces and nephews and countless friends who will miss him so much.

There will be a Celebration of Life Monday, October 25th at 2:00 pm at Poohs Pond, 2983 Eden Valley Road, Port Angeles.
