Sep 14, 2021

1947 – 2021

Frances Maria Montoya, 74, passed away peacefully and returned to Heavenly Father on September 8, 2021 due to cancer.

Frances was born in Los Brozas, New Mexico on May 3, 1947 to Rumaldo Montoya and Cecilia Martinez Montoya. She was the oldest of ten children. Frances graduated from Tooele High School, then moved to the Ogden area.

Frances was a long- time member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in West Haven, Utah.

She had worked for many years at Fresenius Medical Care then retired in 2006. She loved to work in her yard, her house always had amazing, beautiful flowers and the garden was the best. The neighbors would always tell her “you keep us on our toes, we see you outside and working so hard to have such a great yard, we better get outside and try to keep up with you”. Her favorite time was the holidays. She loved to bake and would bake for days, and hand deliver all the cookies to neighbors, friends and family. For Christmas, she would keep on baking and make cookies for all her sisters and brothers, nieces and nephews.

Frances loved to sew. She made quilts for all her family and every time a grandchild was born. For 15 years, she made homemade items for her daughter’s childcare center. She would make bibs, silly shirts, paint shirts and sheets to fit on the children’s mats. She played a big part at the childcare center. All the children would call her grandma or the cookie lady.

Camping was always a must. She loved to pack a lot and would use everything she brought for camping.

Frances volunteered in the community and received many awards.

She married Antonio Montoya in 1972 and they were married for 45 years before he passed in 2017. Together they had a blended family of 8 children.

They are survived by their children: Loretta Montoya, Corina (Tony) Archuleta, Audrey Talamante, Anthony Montoya, JoAnn (Creed) Montoya Ricks, Trudy Montoya, Genevieve (Jon) Romero and also Sonia (Kevin) Torres Gilliam who was like a daughter to her. They have 24 grandchildren, 43 great-grandkids and 2 great-great-grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Liza, 4 brothers: Jim, George, Don and Thomas and her son-in-law Marino.

I would like to thank my mom’s sisters for all their help and many hours with my mom, Ellie Abeyta, Montsey (Frank) Salamanca, Mary (Gilbert) Maestas, Patsey (Donald) Jones, Angie (Ray) Garcia and my sister Corina Archuleta.
