Fred Jones Riggs

Until the age of 87, Fred Jones Riggs (Papa) filled a room with laughter and timeless stories. He transitioned peacefully in his sleep on Monday, September 21st, surrounded by the love of his family. Papa is survived by his sweetheart of 62 years, Jeanne Riggs.

The sixth of eight children (Elda McBride, Pauline McBride, Katherine Fredericks, Charles Riggs, Betty Bankhead, Evan Riggs, and Karen Haycock), Fred was born in 1934 in Wellsville, Utah, to Fred Richard Riggs and Marvilla Jones. He is survived by his Children Larry Riggs and Liz Luing; Grandchildren Shalee Hattori, Jared Simmons, Ashlynn Anderson, Laramie Riggs, and Hunter Riggs. Great Grandchildren; Jayden Neal, Payton Simmons, Tayvin Anderson, Colt Anderson, Sage Hattori, and Aspen Simmons.

He played an essential role on the family farm until 1956 when he joined the army, proudly serving his country.

A man of many trades, Papa had a green thumb, could build a house with his bare hands, and was happiest when he had a fishing rod, hunting rifle, or grandchild in his arms. He authored the book for how to be a loving father, sideline football fan, and silly grand/great grandfather. His quick wit, work ethic, compassion, humility, and sense of adventure live on in all who were blessed enough to be touched by him. He was a “Papa” to everyone until the very end.

At his request no service will be held, but we ask that you keep his memory alive.
