David Lee Carnahan
David Lee Carnahan, 80, passed away on April 18, 2022, in Clearfield, Utah after fighting a valiant battle with brain cancer.
David was born to Cleo and Helen Carnahan November 11, 1941. He was raised in Clinton, Utah. He graduated from Davis High School in 1960. David married his long-time friend Marie Clark in 1995.
David retired from Hill Air Force Base in missile safety after 39 and a half years. David loved to work and took pride in a job well done. Towards the end of his career at Hill Field, he started delivering pizza and spent over a decade as the self-proclaimed most efficient delivery driver given his knack for memorizing most of Weber County and stubbornness to adopt GPS technology. If he wasn’t delivering pizza, you’d likely find him working in his garden, methodically shaping the soil or perfecting the watering cycle for his tomato plants. David was extremely committed to everything he took on. In other words, “do it right or not at all”.
David had a real passion for the outdoors. Fishing, hunting, birdwatching, and camping were avenues for him to connect with nature and share that passion with family and friends. He was an accomplished angler where he won and placed highly in several walleye tournaments. He loved taking his kids camping. Good Food was a top priority and each trip had to have our breakfast staple: homemade sourdough pancakes with berry syrup.
David was a true jokester; he teased all those around him. You knew David cared about you if he felt comfortable enough to tell you an uncomfortable joke. His humor and genuine care for others enabled him to make friends with many. He took pride in being the penny-pinching patron you’d find scouring parking lots for loose change. David and Marie continued this game for many years and even opened an account for their ‘found-money’.
He is survived by his wife Marie Carnahan and her children Sue (Dale) Mietus, Mark Padgett, Scott Padgett and their children; sister Kathy (Alan) Barber; son Benton (Melissa) Carnahan; daughter Kattie (Jason) Earl and 13 grandchildren who will miss their “fishy-papa”.
He was preceded in death by his son D. Shayne Carnahan and parents, Cleo and Helen Carnahan.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, friends, and neighbors who graciously cared for David and helped extend his life far longer than expected.
Graveside service will be held Monday, April 25, 2022, at 2:00 pm at the Clinton City Cemetery, 813 N 750 W, Clinton, UT 84015.
