James H. Montgomery

1929 — 2022

James Howard Montgomery passed away August 8th, 2022 at his son’s home in Plain City. He was born September 3rd, 1929 in Ogden, Utah to Earl and Jane Montgomery. He was one of 7 siblings, including 1 brother and 5 sisters. He graduated from Ogden HS in 1947, after which he joined the Air Force Reserves while at the same time starting his career at Hill Field Air Force Base. He retired from there after 37 years.

Jim married Lavon Compton in 1950. They raised three children together and had 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter Leigh (Vince) MacManus, and 2 sons Steve (Kathy-deceased) Montgomery and Russ (Becky). Montgomery. He lost his loving wife of 72 years in January of this year, after which his life was never the same.

He loved being with Lavon and his family and spent as much time as possible with them. They spent the last many years in their dream home in St George where he enjoyed playing golf for as long as he could. He and Lavon built a cabin in Island Park, Idaho and it was truly his favorite place to be.

Graveside services will be held at the Ogden Cemetery (located on the west side, 2nd avenue) at 20th and Madison starting at 11am on Tuesday, August 16th, 2022. A luncheon will be served after the service at the Plain City 6th Ward, 2235 N 4350 W, Plain City for all who wish to come.
