Susan Moffitt Bird

Aug 25, 2022

Susan Moffitt Bird, 78, of Heber, Utah passed away peacefully on August 24, 2022 surrounded by her family. Born to Royal and Hazel Moffitt, Susan was the third child of six with four brothers and a younger sister.

Susan was raised in Spanish Fork, Utah and graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1962. Shortly after graduation she met the love of her life, Robert Lamar Bird. Susan married Robert in 1962 in Ruth, Nevada and were later sealed in the Logan Utah Temple.

Susan was a dedicated wife and mother, raising eight children and helping to care for many grandchildren. During her husband’s career, their family were able to experience living in Washington, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Utah.

Susan led a very active life and was always on the move. She loved all sorts of activities including playing the piano, golf, bowling, card games and early morning power walks. She also made sure that all her children were active and stepped-up multiple times to coach their sports teams. Susan also enjoyed camping, cooking, sewing, and canning the family garden harvest. And we would be amiss if we didn’t mention how much Susan loved to laugh and often pull pranks to lighten the mood. After raising her own children, Susan took a job helping to care for the elderly and spent much of her time traveling with Bob to be with her grandchildren and great grandchildren who she loved very much.

Susan was a devoted member of the LDS church and was very proud of her husband who served as a Bishop in Layton, Utah and again in Great Falls, Montana. She had many callings throughout her life and faithfully gave her time and energy to serving the Lord. Susan and Bob served three LDS missions together. They were first called to serve as Salt Lake City Temple tour guide shuttle Missionaries for those with longer layovers at the Salt Lake City Airport. They loved it so much that they extended for another two years. After that they were called to serve in the Antananarivo, Madagascar Humanitarian Mission. They then served as Temple Missionaries in Johannesburg, South Africa.

After their missions, Susan and Bob traveled the globe extensively and split their time as snowbirds between St. George and Syracuse, Utah. They especially loved their relaxing home in St. George.

Susan is survived by her eight children and their spouses, Curtis Bird (Jeanette), Kristina Bird Lewis (John), Russen R. Bird (Casey), Cindy Bird Vance (Glenn), Carlene Bird Carlson (Jimmy), Spencer Bird (Dayna), David Bird (Cate), and Diana Bird Reese (Robert); 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and her siblings Lee Moffit and Margie Rasmussen. Susan was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years Robert, her three brothers Bob, Bill and Gill Moffitt, her mother Hazel Moffitt, and her father Royal Moffitt.
