Vesta Louise Quigley Flanagan

Dec 12, 2022

Vesta Louise Quigley Flanagan, Age 78, passed from earth into the welcoming and loving arms of Jesus and Jim, on October 14th, 2022.

Vesta was born to Herbert (“Red”) James Quigley and Anna Alice Heywood Quigley in Ticonderoga, New York. Vesta graduated from Deposit Central High School, Deposit, NY in 1962. On Sept 11, 1965, she married the love of her life, James Edward Flanagan Jr., in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Schroon Lake, NY. Together they raised two daughters, Jamie and Suzanna. Jim and Vesta were happily married and best friends for 41 yrs. until his death in 2006 in Burley Idaho.

Vesta was an amazingly devoted wife & mother and embraced her role of Air Force wife and school “mom” with zest and enthusiasm! She was a high energy person, a crafter, baker, gardener, and very artistic cake decorator, throughout her life! Oftentimes she would bake her children or grandchildren their favorite pie or treat for their birthdays, which meant more to them than anything she could have bought. She truly baked “with love”. Vesta and Jim stayed active in their military chapel activities, oftentimes running the Young Singles or Young Married outdoor adventure programs. She loved to camp, hunt, fish, and travel and was at her happiest when living a simple, loving life, surrounded by close friends and family.

Vesta was also a proud American patriot as were the past generations of her family. She relished the adventure of living the Air Force life with her family. She sacrificed, worked extra jobs, and saved, when stationed in England for 9 years, so she could plan epic European adventures for her children, knowing that the most impactful educational experiences oftentimes take place outside of the classroom. She was adventurous and made some great, lifelong friends along the way!

She more recently attended the Spirit Builders Bible Study class at Alpine Church in West Haven UT and strived to live in an atmosphere of love and compassion her entire life, serving her Savior faithfully until her death.

Vesta was preceded in death by her brother Richard Heywood Quigley and sister Suzie Quigley. She is survived by her two daughters, Jamie (Rocco) Barboni, and Suzanna “Suzie” (Reid) Leland, and her sister Norma Quigley, and her grandkids Nico Barboni, Tilo Barboni, Paige Leland, Grant Leland, and Spencer Leland. There were no funeral services at her request, and she is buried alongside Jim in Chilson Community Cemetery in Chilson New York.

Memorials may be made to the Homeless Veteran’s Fellowship, 541 23rd Street, Ogden UT 84401.
