Mark Sherman Daley

May 19, 1953 — January 21, 2022

Mark was born and raised in Ogden by his parents Theodore “Ted” Olsen and Janice May Sherman Daily. A cousin’s happy memory was jumping on a huge inner tube in Mark’s backyard at a young age. Growing up Mark enjoyed fishing and boating with family and friends. He graduated in 1971 from Ben Lomond High School. After attending college, Mark enlisted in the Navy on January 6, 1975, just four months prior to the ending of the Vietnam War. Mark served his country for over twelve years being honorably discharged on June 30, 1987.

Early in his Navy career, he met and married his first wife, a Filipino. His short marriage ended tragically and too soon with her passing. Also, while serving as a Navy Recruiter in San Diego (one of his favorite places in the world) he was struck by a drunk driver while entering or exiting his parallel parked car in front of his office, hospitalizing him for nine months. Miraculously he survived. Awarded disability, he graciously declined and took an office job with the Navy.

Mark married his second wife, Marilyn, around 1992 and 14 of the happiest years of his life ensued. Mark was an only child and never had children of his own. He loved Marilyn and her children and always spoke fondly of them.

Mark worked as a Millwright with the Horsley Co. and later for Associated Foods until 2006. Mark’s past trauma caught up with him physically and mentally. Mark succumbed to death following several years battling cancer. Inheriting a kind and tender heart from his mother, Mark, maintained a mild disposition most of the time.

The family would like to express sincere thanks and appreciation to those at the Homeless Veterans Fellowship in Ogden where Mark lived the remainder of his life and also thank the doctors, nurses, and professional staff at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Medical Center for outstanding care and kindness given.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Ogden City Cemetery. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
