Irven H. Moncrief Jr

Jan 28, 2022

September 25, 1954 — January 21, 2022

Our beloved partner, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather Irven H. Moncrief Jr passed away peacefully from multiple health complications in Phoenix Az on January 21, 2022 with his family by his side. Irv was born in Ogden, Utah to Dr. Irven H. Moncrief, Sr. and Delores Ruth (Susie) Clements Moncrief on September 25, 1954. Irv attended Ogden City Schools and graduated from Ogden High in 1973. Some of his fondest childhood memories were of his beautiful and loved mother as well as the precious times he shared with his siblings visiting their grandparents.

Irv was a hard worker and had an entrepreneurial mindset, eventually opening his own business WoodCare Refinishing in Ogden. His artisan talent could make anything look amazing, while taking apart and restoring antique pianos, dining room sets, family heirlooms and kitchen cabinets, to name a few. Many homes in Ogden, Park City and surrounding cities currently contain his works of art.

Irv lived in Ogden where he married Judy Lamph on July 3, 1979. They enjoyed living in Ogden together for many years raising their two beautiful and loving children, Susie Kate and Max. Irv and Judy later divorced. Over the years Irv continued to love sharing special dinners of steak, artichokes and crab with his children.

Irv met his partner William Newcomb in Ogden and they went on to enjoy their home together in Park City Utah where they loved cooking, watching balloon festivals from their deck and running their wood refinishing business. They loved visiting Sedona Az where Irv would cook up a storm with his father. They eventually moved to Phoenix, Az where they loved basking in the sun year round enjoying their pool in their beautiful backyard with their precious and loved cats. Irv’s hobbies included houseboating on Lake Powell, boating on Pineview Reservoir, antiquing, camping, cooking, singing, listening to music, working in his yard, barbequing chicken, watching the Antiques Roadshow, soaking in the sun by his pool, and being involved in his Scottish roots.

He is survived by his partner of 30 years William Newcomb, daughter Susie (Aaron) Boerboom, son Max (Taylor) Moncrief and six adored grandchildren Brecklyn, Rachel, Elyse, Carter, Charlie and Isla. Irv endearingly nicknamed these beautiful little children his “Twinkle Toes.” Also surviving are his siblings, brother Geoffrey Moncrief (La Jolla, CA) sister Heather Cadinha (Long Beach, WA), and sisters Heidi (Bill) Portz, Suzette (Eldon) Jensen, and Shannon (Michelle) Palmer, all of Ogden. He was predeceased by his parents and one brother Gregory Moncrief.

Irv had a heart of gold and loved his “Father God,” as he would say, very much. He will be greatly missed, forever cherished and always deeply loved. The family will have a memorial service in Ogden at a later date when the weather is warmer.
